Sorry if this has been posted/answered a million times. I went back several pages and didn't see it addressed, so here's my problem: On my profile, PBS seems to arbitrarily assign authors and books to my favorites (i.e., it lists my favorite author as Gen. George Patton and my favorite books as some I've either posted, ordered or simply browsed).

I do not want PBS to list ANY favorites whatsoever, but every single time I change it, it comes back. With the favorite author thing, it always lists Patton (whose one book I've read, "War As I Knew It," is a great book, but hardly my favorite). With my favorite books it's even worse. If I so much as click on a book on somebody else's bookshelf, it suddenly becomes one of my "favorites" and it drives me crazy.

Anybody else seen this glitch? Is PBS working on it or, if not, is there any way around it? I'd be perfectly happy with those fields being blank. I don't care if anybody is interested in my favorite authors or books. But when I try to leave them blank, it never "sticks," so to speak.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for allowing the rant.

Its not necessarily a glitch, they've just designed it so that Blank is not an option. You have to put something or it will be automatically populated. You can't pick one for each just to stop it from autofilling?

To suggest allowing to leave it blank you can send in Feedback via the Contact Us link in the lower right under Company.

Hi Michael,

You cannot leave them blank, otherwise, PBS fills them in for you from books you've rated, or books sitting on your TBR pile.  The best thing to do is to fill them up yourself.

It used to drive me crazy as well, so I set my Privacy Controls so that only I can see my favorites or what I'm reading -- and I just ignore them.

Alright, then. I can learn to live with it.

I HATE to choose favorites just because there are way too many to me. It's like asking, "Who is the most beautiful woman in the world?" It's a ridiculous question because perfection can't compete with itself. Same with books and authors.

But OK. I'll try cramming the fields with whatever. Thanks for the responses. If any of you want to be one of my favorite authors, PM me.

Michael,

I am glad you posed this question because I also have tried to change those fields with no success. Why will it only allow me one favourite authors titles? I've tried listing more than one fave author and I can't. Why do some members have different set ups on those lists and how is it done? I'm still not sure from these answers.

(Favorite authors seems to be the one I can't get to list what I want, the others are OK.)

Lori - it should allow you more than one favorite author, but the window will only be populated by one author at a time - the one selected in the drop down. The other favorite authors you select should still be there, available in a dropdown menu, but you'd only be able to toggle between them, you wouldn't be able to have more than one on the screen at a time. Other members should be able to toggle between them too so it doesn't matter who you've selected on your screen. If you click on edit in that section you should get a window that allows you to add quite a few favorite authors.

Melanie,

Thanks! That has puzzled me for so long , now it makes sense. Somewhere else you were kind enough to ask me about why I thought I could not mark books RWAP that were only packaged in printer paper if they are damaged in the mail. I think I supposed that if books were sent by the rules they could not be RWAP. Now- the new set up in receiving books, makes it easier to see the options. Thank-you so much for helping me.
