This is a first for me, and I could not find where the help doc specifically covered this issue under posting audios.

I received an audio with a "Promotional copy.  Not for resale" sticker across the back.  It had unsucessfully been partially removed.  Since print books, and even cd's on Swapacd are not postable, I'm wondering about audios.  Would this be considered an ARC?  Only the packaging seems to say this.

Promotional copies and free sample books are not necessarily ARCs, and such promo copies (that aren't ARCs) are perfectly postable here, as long as they are the full version. (Promotional "first chapters" of books - these are not complete books, even if they have an ISBN.) PBS swaps are not resales, no selling of books involved so they do not violate any resale restrictions.

So, as long as the "Promotional Copy" was a full-length edition, there should not be a problem with posting and swapping for a credit.

Thanks for answering.  I have no idea  if everything that should be there is, or isn't.  And listening to it wouldn't necessarily help as I've never heard the book.  But I will just mark it received, because I do understand what you mean by the difference in an ARC and promotional copy.

Bonnie- look at the case, does it state on there how many minutes long it is?  Then go to amazon and see what time length is listed on the regular CD, its fine if its LONGER then the regular CD edition  but if its shorter I;d wondered if its the whole thing.

You might also check the publication date or 'recorded' date...however sound recordings do that sort of thing.  If it's dated much after the book publication it's probably the finished product.

Actually...are sound recordings released as ARC's?  Never thought about it before lol.

Regarding postablilty, SwapaCD or PBS?  No idea about the CD site and audio books, but they are postable here at PBS so long as they meet swappability (condition)  guidelines.

The CD site is only for music CDS. Audiobooks get posted here.  I can't see audiobooks being issued as ARC. I would think an audiobook would be the finished product.  If it's abridged it should say on it somewhere.  Abridged audios are allowed.  I can't see them making the investment to record an audiobook for an uncorrected book.

Perhaps I miswrote.  CD's that are promotional are not allowed on swapacd.  I know audiobooks go here.  Though, I have seen audios over there and cd's here wrongly.

And of course, abridged audios are allowed.

But thank you, everybody, I already marked it received in good condition.  And Mary, I agree, I can't see an audio book released as an ARC.  It was the sticker that threw me, I guess.

It was an interesting question Bonnie, I hadn't seen that one before.
