Hi all, I'm trying to return to PBS after a long and nasty divorce. I just restarted and updated my Wishlist and have gotten a few book offers already but unfortunately for me I do not have any credits nor will I be able to purchase any for two more weeks when I get paid. I really hate asking for what is essentially a hand out of a credit, but it would be crushing to lose my place and say no to these books also. So what I'm asking is if there a forum where I could ask others who might be willing to help out for the loan or gift of a credit or two?

And if this is a question that should not be asked in this forum, please forgive me I'll delete it right away.

Thank you for reading this far! :)

Kris

We now have an option to put wish list books on hold.  You will move up the waiting list, but not be offered a book until you turn it back on.  Great for handling low credits.

You can also use the Not Now button to keep your place in line while declining that particular offer. You can only use it once per book though.

Welcome back.  The proper place to ask for a LOAN of a credit is the forum Book Bazzar.  You should never beg or ask for a gift of a credit.

Cathy, I thought the "not now" feature was only for gold key members?  Am I mistaken? I haven't had a wishlisted book offered to me in many months, so I know I haven't seen it.

Welcome back, and yes there are some great newer features for managing that Wish List so you don't have to lose your place in line as much. The Hold feature is nice because you can manage the number of offers you will get by putting some of those you get close to the top on Hold if you are short credits. The Wish List Hold is not like the Bookshelf individual Hold, where on the Wish List your place in line is maintained and you continue to work your way to the front of the line. Unfortunately that doesn't do you any good once the offer is already there. The Not Now feature is an AWESOME new feature implemented when the Gold Key memberships came about and you can use it  one time (ever) per book to say you don't want to accept a current offer. That will place the book on Hold on your Wish List and maintain your spot in line. When you have the credit and are ready to get offers again, you can remove the Hold.

And if you just can't wait or have credits coming in soon and would like to look for a credit loan (just asking for free credits is not allowed), it must be done in the Book Bazaar Forum. There are some rules on doing so in the red sticky titled "How to use this forum..." towards the top of the Bazaar so read those carefully before posting.

Good luck and enjoy those Wish List books!

Thank you all for the great answers and advice, I have a lot to learn and a great many changes to get adjusted too I see. :)

I'm sorry if my post offended or rubbed anyone the wrong way, I just really wasn't sure how to go about this.

Kris :)

It didn't offend. I'm just glad you're back with us here!   There are lots of new features this past year that you'll find very useful. PBS just keeps getting better and better!

Kris, you asked before you did anything - that makes us HAPPY!

Hopefully none of the answers came across that anyone was upset or offended, I don't think anyone was. Sometimes we just explain in a very detailed manner to cover ALL bases and it might come out a bit lecturish, but its not intended to be that way. We're just making sure we get all the information out there to cover as many situations as possible. Even if all the information doesn't apply to you, someone else who comes along and reads your thread might wondering something similar.

I'm really very grateful for all the information I've gotten in reply to my question. I know you all probalby see a lot of posts like mine and think that I'm just begging for credits, and you get really sick of that kind of stuff, I do understand that completly!

I've been very fortunate to have been given some credits by a few very kind and generous members and I was able to order the books that I was offered. I can't thank them and you all enough for that. I really hope that someday when I can afford to post and mail out books and earn credits that way, or to even buy some of my own, that I can be as kind and share with those who might be short one or two in the future. I very firmly belive in paying kindnesses forward.

Thank you all for showing me that while there is a lot of new features and other changes at PBS, that the one most important thing has never changed, the kindness of it's members. :)
