I took a look at my public profile, and all of my personal account information is listed.  Used to be I only saw what would be public--(I have my state, etc, private).  So is this just a change, and the info is just seen by me, or is there a glitch with my account and everyone can see it?

Thanks :)

Julie when I look at your profile your location is visible. The books sent and received are not.

Julie, i don't see all of your info.  But went I went and looked at my own profile, I had an "oh crap" moment myself.  I am really glad that everyone can't see all that stuff!

Ahhhhhhhhh!  Holy crud!  My full name, address, and e-mail are visible to me!!!  Can you see it?

I can just see your town/state Julie.

I can see your city and state, age, when you joined and books listed and WL'd but nothing under books sent/received.

I think to hide all of that you'd have to have no public profile at all....either that or there was a hiccup and something changed in your settings

Hmmm--I have my location clicked "no" and my stats "yes" on my settings....When I look at my profile it has my e-mail, phone, etc....?

edited to add---Ok, at least I'm not the only one!  I'm just glad my personal info isn't seen by everyone!

Monica, you can see a lot more on your own profile than I can, I can only see your city/state when you joined and notes, much like Julie's.

Julie, you can see ALL of your info but we cannot, just what I mentioned above.

Wow- that freaks me out too.  What can you see on mine?  My address, email, city/state should all be hidden.  Would someone be kind enough to tell me if they can see it?

Thanks!

Amy--no, I can't see your private info.  But it looks as if everyones books rec'd and sent stats have been turned off.

Another edit---books sent and received are back.

There has been a change to the public profiles, to read about it go to the help center and type in "privacy controls."

Yep - go to settings and click the tab for "privacy controls".  I think my personal info is gone (can someone tell me, please?)  Also - you should not be able to see my wish list.  Is that working?

Thanks y'all!

I cannot see your wishlist Amy, and the personal info I see is your age, "member since" date and last login.

An easy way to test your public profile is to log out and then look at it - in your case it's http://gulfcoastamy.paperbackswap.com/profile/ - and that's what everyone else can see about you.

Okey, okey...don't freak out..... here is what you need to know:

You can now adjust the privacy controls on your account from the link Privacy Controls at the top of the Settings page in My Account.

  • You can decide who sees what in your account:
    • Profile
    • Last login
    • personal info (age, city/state, email address, telephone number, Mailing address)
    • Lists (Bookshelf, Wish List, Buddy List, Reviews, transactions)
    • Online status
  • Each of the above will have a setting:
    • Public (any member can see)
    • All Buddies (Full and Lite Buddies can see)
    • Full Buddies (only Full Buddies can see)
    • Private (nobody can see)
  • You can assign Full Buddy/Lite Buddy status from the bottom of the Privacy Controls page.

You can also click to reset to default settings.

Note: when you view your own profile, you will see ALL information. This will NOT be what is shown to other members.  What is shown to others will be what you have set in your privacy controls.

Thanks - I didn't realize you could do that - I thought I had to be logged in to view profiles.  Good to know!

Just curious, but why would some people want their wishlist to be private?  And why would anyone mark their bookshelf as private?  Isn't that what I want everyone to see in order to place an order??

For me, it's about being able to invite people to the site.  If I tell my boss about it, do I really want him to check out my wishlist and see How to Get out of a Dead End Job?  (I love my job - but that's just an example).  I also have some erotica books on my shelf that I wouldn't necessarily want some people to know about (like my mom).  I don't hide my bookshelf, but I could and just let the FIFO system work for me.
