Robert Heinlein, Grand Master of science fiction. That pretty much says it all. This is a book from his Future History series, where a parasitic species invades our planet and starts taking over portions of the US. Has several of his usual characters, the tough, brave genius, the brilliant head of a secret organization, and the beautiful and brilliant female agent who is a push-over for our hero.
Yeah, I know, stereotypes, but as usual it's a fun read.
This is a great book. It is full of meaningful action and people who struggle against terible odds.
I read this book the first time in junior high school. It is one I have remembered for a very long time; Heinlein is a superb author and the story is still just as shocking in places as it was a long time ago.
This was a good story featuring alien invasion mixed with espionage. I liked the characters Sam, Mary and the Old Man.
I almost didn't read this one, I received it and another book at the same time, they were similar in appearance. I didn't like the other book at all so I thought this one was like the other. I finally picked it up and started to read it. Not at all what I thought it would be. turned out to be a very good book. I enjoyed it very much.
Alien globules have landed in the heart of the bible belt (Des Moines no less) and they are taking over the bodies of the general public. Gradually, they are taking over the entire population. Who is a real person? Who has been made into an alien zombie? Here is an us or them story of a fight for survival by one of the great masters of science fiction.
This story was originally published in 1950, the monsters from Outer Space era. Reading it sixty six years later, it alternates between hilarious and chilling. Mostly it's suspenseful. A very enjoyable read from one of the masters of science fiction.
