I did a Search with the ISBN number and the book came up with a purchase price and Buy It button. Are books being sold here?

That is a link that allows you to buy the book at Amazon.

Hi Marilyn and welcome to PBS. I hope you enjoy your membership here as much as I do mine.

As for your question, if there are no copies of the books currently posted in the PBS system, there are a number of option buttons that will appear on that listing. One will be +Wish, which will add the book to your WishList. You can check your WishList to see what place you are in line for that book by hovering over the exclamation mark. When you are the next in line for that book, you will be notified when that book is posted. You can also add it to your Reminder List, if you are not sure you will order it when it is posted, you will not get a notice that it is available, but can see from the Reminder List page how many, if any are posted in the system.

The other option is to Buy It New, which will take you to Amazon. com. PBS will receive a small percentage of the book sale, which goes to support this site.

Hope that helps,

Cheryl

Does PBS get a commission if you use the link to buy a book used through Amazon as well, or is it just if you purchase it new?

Hmm, I don't know that PBS gets a commission.  I think it is just something that they have set up for us as a perk for the site...just linking us to Amazon as a way to get our books faster, if we don't want to wait for the FIFO.  (But I could be very wrong about that....  LOL)

Oh, I think you would be very wrong about that.  Amazon has long been a site that gives people a tiny percentage of the purchase price for click throughs.  Another web site I am active on also participates.  Back when I had a web site (just a personal home page) I even had Amazon links for some books that I mentioned.  Never actually got any money from it, but it was just a personal web site with low traffic.

In the help on buy it new:

"Support PBS: a tiny amount of your purchase price will go to PBS, to help support the site.

  • We are talking really tiny, but hey!  every little bit helps"

Why use Buy it New?

  • Get a book if the Wish List is long and you just can't wait to read it!

  • Support PBS: a tiny amount of your purchase price will go to PBS, to help support the site.

    • We are talking really tiny, but hey!  every little bit helps.
