Sounds like fun! I don't know anything about them, but there's a place you can start.

Here.

Hopefully there will be some neat suggestions along with how to update it and such.

Well that's odd. My reply is apparently in the ozone.

I posted this in the thread on CMT. Two of my friends who got Literati for Christmas have had the unit start to melt when they were recharging the battery. Apparently this is a known problem with some of the units. So you might want to take care not to leave home when it is recharging. FYI.

Katie, Please do post your experiences with this eReader, a friend of mine just purchased on for his wife and I'm very interested to find out how it is doing.  (Especially since I anticipate being their 'go to guide' for information on using eReaders...)

The WEP # is the security # for our wifi IDK what it is my DH calls it that and every time I went online with it last night I had to reenter that # if I had turned the unit off. Does that make sense?

Please forgive me I am techno illiterate frown or idiot take your pick haha

We bought one of these on eBay for our son and received it today.

Very pleased! It is so user friendly it almost puts hubby and I's Nooks to shame. Almost. lol.

Hubby has already asked me to budget to buy 2 more. One for my cookbooks and such and one for him to play with. yes

Okay, I got my Literati yesterday, and I have some questions.

1. Someone (Justin?) suggested turning it on while it's charging. I did that, but noticed that the screen went dark after 10-15 minutes. Is that normal (it turns itself off after a while), or should the screen stay on?

2. When you plug the power jack in on the bottom of the Literati, is the black part completely flush with the machine? I notice that I can still see part of the metal thing you plug in.

3. To finish the update to 2.0, I clicked on Restart as stated in the manual. The screen went dark and has not come back on. Is it supposed to come on automatically, or am I supposed to manually turn on the reader again?

I can only answer the first question, were new too. smiley

The same thing happened when we charged, it fully charged fine and it appears the screen went dark because the reader goes to sleep.

Hope that helps! smiley

Edited- figuired out what I was questioning.

1. It goes on stand by when it's not in use.  Hold the power button for two seconds, and it should turn right back on.

2. The two I've got are like you describe.  The black pluggy part doesn't sit flush with the base.  Now, the dud that wouldn't even turn on has a lot more of the metal exposed than the operational one.

3. They don't appear to automatically turn back on after the updates.  The telephone support lady said to wait fifteen minutes after they shut down before turning it back on.

ETA: I'm pretty much loving mine, but I have noticed that the screen does have a pretty nasty flickr that's obvious when looking at pictures and other high color pages.  I read a bunch of postings on other forums saying that these guys wouldn't take SDHC cards, but I popped an 8GB one and have had no issues.

I got mine on Friday. Does anyone have any step by step info on how to download the free books? I'm pretty much stuck on that part of the Literati.

You have to us Toggle button to move around in the Store!   Click around til it highlights FREE at top!  Once your on the free pages they turn by highlighting the tiny arrows.  Not the arrows on the side of the machine...they are for turning pages as you read books.
