I understand how to highlight the title of a book, copy it, then click on the link icon and paste the title into the URL box,

But how does one type 'link' or other words into that box instead?

You just type in the text you want to use, highlight it, click the "link" icon (looks like a globe with a chain), and paste the url there.

Go ahead, give it a try.

Okay, guess I did something wrong as the words My Multiples just led back to this post!

Here's what I did:  Found the post for my wishlisted multiples in-line.  Erased what showed up in the box at the very top of the page and typed in "My Multiples".  Highlighted that. Went to the link icon and pasted.  Here's what came out:  http:// My Multiples.  I erased up to My Multiples.  But the link sent me back to my posted question here.

What did I miss or do wrong?  I guess I don't know where to type in the text.

I'm not quite understanding what happened there.

What you'd do for a clickable link here is type in some text right here in the reply box, highlight it, click the "link" icon, paste the URL you want to send people to, then click OK.

I think you may have copied the URL (the http://www... address) from this page instead of from the page you wanted us to see.  Or, if you used

http:// My Multiples

that's not a valid web address.  If you paste it into the URL window and hit enter, you get an error.

Try it again, but make sure the address you are pasting in is the address of the page you want to lead us to.  Copy it from the window at the top of the page you want us to see.

However, if you are sending us to a page that only you can normally see (say, your reminder list, or your wish list if it's set to be private) then we won't be able to see it.  We can't go through your account to get to anything.

What are you trying to link to?

In my signature, where I refer to my wishlisted multiples post, I'd like to add a link that takes a person right directly to my post in that thread.

But instead of that link showing the complete address of that post, which is lengthy, I'd just like it to say something like 'Wishlisted Multiples'.

So how did Lisa, in her post above, rename the original URL, which was http://icanhascheezburger.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/funny-pictures-cat-needs-help.jpg?w=500&h=358  to  Go ahead and try it
(or whatever she titled it)

Most of the time if it is a blue linked line already, you should be able to copy and paste it and it should work. Some browsers don't cooperate well with that though.

If you are going to create a link you don't want to erase what is at the top, you want to copy it.

Copy the URL (the stuff at the top http: ...) of the page you want.

Go to where you want to make your link and type the words you want the link to say.

Highlight what you have typed and click on the link icon (little globe looking thing) and a window will open up

Paste your link into the window.

Should work.

Cindy, if you follow the steps I posted above you should have no trouble adding a link exactly like I did.

"Okay, guess I did something wrong as the words My Multiples just led back to this post!  Here's what I did:  Found the post for my wishlisted multiples in-line.  Erased what showed up in the box at the very top of the page."   No, don't erase this, copy it (otherwise you're erasing the very address that you want to copy.)

"and typed in 'My Multiples' "  You don't type My Multiples in the Address Bar, you type it into the TEXT BOX you're wanting people to click on.

"Highlighted that." YES...

"Went to the link icon and pasted. Here's what came out:  http:// My Multiples."  That's because you pasted what you copied above ("My Multiples") but when you copy the address link (in the top most address bar at the top of a page) and paste that instead, you'll be set.

Good luck!

I just watch the threads with helpful advice.  They are then at the bottom of my watch threads page.

I sometimes use Emily's method to keep track of useful discussions.  You can also friend yourself, copy and paste the information into a pm to yourself, then from your inbox you can archive the pm.

Oh.  How to add a link to a PM.  (Yes.  I've set to watch that thread also.)
