I am unsure whether this is an unpostable book that I just received.

It is a romance book that when you flip the cover it has a typical picture of the characters on the second page. However this second inside page has been clearly ripped out.

I worry about when I'm done reading this book, will I be able to post it with that ripped out picture page?

I've wondered about this, too.  I doubt that that is true to the guidelines, but I am not sure if it's only when the page is a "blurb".  It would still be considered "text".

I'd RWAP it. I would be torqued if a page was missing.

If tears are no-nos then missing pages must be as well.

Non-text pages can be missing. So, those pages at the front or back with coupons or descriptions of other books, or the "book review" pages ... those are all non-text pages.

The PBS rules do not say "No missing pages".

They say "No missing text pages"

If your book still has a cover, it is postable.

I've always felt this was a gray area, bcause sometimes those picture pages are part of the cover (so there are cut outs or the cover is shorter so you can see part of the picture with the book closed).  If it is part of the cover then it would be unpostable due to having more than an inch torn away.  I'm not sure if I'd ask for a credit back, because the guidelines aren't really clear.  But I probably wouldn't repost it or would offer it on one of the threads where I could describe the condition.

I have several of these, because I used to rip out the embarassing picture pages when I read romance novels as a teenager, so that my mother wouldn't lecture me about reading trashy books, and I haven't posted them here

It's definitely a gray area. Everyone has to interpret the rules the way that makes sense to them.

Personally, if it was my book, I would post it because I think it still meets the guidelines. But, I can see how other people might think it doesn't.

If there is nothing missing that is integral to the content of the book, then I'd repost it.   I've had a couple of books in my possession that had marks or stains on the first page only and that page was like "reviews" or raves.  I would have been okay about it not being there had I received it.  I didn't post them, though.

Okay thank you for the input. So if I do decide to post it and someone wants it, then I will let them know about the missing picture.

Interesting grey area. :)

Was it the same paper stock as the cover? Where the cover is really made up of two pages? If it was, I would consider it missing part of its cover and mark it RWP if I got it.

i agree it has to be one of the pages that is like the content without content!

If it's part of the cover, IIRC those are called a 'step back'?  Definately a gray area, maybe ask your tourguide or even PBS Librarian?

If you are talking about what is called a stepback cover, I personally consider that part of the cover and would be irritated to receive a book like that w/o prior warning, so I think your decision to post and inform whomever about the missing bit is a good one.
