Hey everyone!  I mailed a book about a week and a half ago to a person who I just found out has a closed/suspended account.  My question is since I didn't use printable postage or DC will I ever get my credit?  Do I have to wait till the book is declared lost and then PBS will credit me?   This is the first time I have encountered this so I just wasn't sure.  Do you think the person got the book and just didn't mark it received?  I had a weird feeling about this book from the beginning and now I see why!  In hindsight I sure wish I had used my PBS money to pay for postage.  Thanks for any help!  :)

I found this in the Help Center and believe that it would apply in this case because the receiving member would be perceived as inactive:

  • If your account appears "inactive" to the PBS computer, a book that is en route to you will be marked received by the system on the 26th day (the 35th day if sender or requestor is outside the contiguous US) after it is marked mailed (it will not be declared Lost).

There is a system action date on the transaction on your My Account page. Just before that date, the book will either be marked lost or received. If it's marked lost, then you should contact the PBS Team.

Sometimes you get that message and it is because the powers at PBS are clearing up a problem with the person.  It's not always closed for good.  In fact - the account is often opened in another day or so.

Oh, and another thing, in a regular transaction without the acct status issue, iF a book goes "lost" and is never marked received, you lose the credit---I learned that the hard way!

Thanks everyone for the info!  Just checked and the person's account is still suspended/closed. Hoping for the best!
