Hi all,

I am new to the site and was excited to recieve my first book. But, I became discouraged after examining the book. I'm curious as to the opinions of others on this book condition. The book is split in half and the front half is only held to the cover by a millimeter of the binding. I have posted links to pictures of the condition. Is this a rwap or no? Thank you.

Welcome to the site! I'm sorry you had a bad experience on your first swap! Please do not be discouraged. Yes, separated from binding is a definite WRAP - and reporting it as such will help weed-out repeated offenders from the site. From help docs:

  • Must be intact, with no separation on the inside or outside of the book
  • If the book tends to open at a particular page, this is OKAY
  • Small amount of fraying or denting at top or bottom is OKAY

You are clearly within your rights to (gently) request your credit back.

Definitely a no-no book. Wonder if the sender will claim she/he received it in that condition so figured it was o.k. to post again . . . . . . .

Welcome to PBS. Let us know how everything turns out for you. You should get your credit back but some will balk. Don't let them get you down, but be firm but considerate.

I'm sorry your first book showed up like that.  I have been on this site for almost a year now & haven't received too many 'bad' books.  Hopefully your next transaction will be much better!

The sender seemed to have taken it lightly. I received my credit back and an apology from the sender. Yay. Second attempt at the book now. :)

This site has good standards and that book does not meet them! You can include the photos in your RWAP message as well so if the team does investigate the other member at some point they can see all the messages and the photos too!

 Wishing you many wonderful books!

Welcome to PBS. I'm glad everything worked out and you got your credit back.

Like other have mentioned, don't let this discourage you. I've been on PBS for 4+ years now and I haven't gotten many blatantly unpostables. :)

Oh, I wasn't discouraged about trading on the site, poor choice of words on my part. I meant I went from estatic that a trade came to disappointed when I saw the condition of the book. I shouldn't have wrote discouraged. :)

Welcome, Andy!  Sorry your first book was not a good one, that IS disappointing.  Can't believe someone would send a book in that condition!!  Glad the person knew they were in the wrong, and returned your credit without a problem. Best of luck with all your future books!!

If all the pages are there don't request another copy...  You got your credit back so read that one and don't repost it...  JMHO!

I've glued books that looked similar to that back together. I certainly wouldn't repost it but if you just want to read it, gluing it could keep it together for at least one more read.

True. I decided to wish for a hardcover version instead. I'll leave it there for now, but read this one in the mean time. :)
