Okay  I don't know if this has happened to anyone else or not. Lately I have made deals with 2 other traders and had them tell me that my books would be mailed and give me a date. I then receive the book only to find out that the original person I did the deal with cancelled and didn't notify me so I end up using credits I wouldn't have used otherwise. Is there some kind of guideline where they should or have to notify people when they cancel their deals so we would have the chance to get our credit back? I'm just curious because whenever I have to do something like cancel a deal I let the other person know what the problem is or see if they mind a small delay. I just don't know why someone would do something like this its just bad conduct for trading on here. So I'm posting this to see what some others opinions are about this and if some kind a notice should be done to give us a say about whether we still want this book when the original trader cancels it. Thanks for looking

Amber

I don't think there are any official rules about this, but I would definitely report the members who did this to you!

I just did this newest one because the deal was 5 for 1 credit and I'm really upset over this

That is ridiculous.   You could try PMing the person to see what he/she will do to make it right.  If it's a newbie, they may not understand that when they cancel your request automatically goes to the FIFO line.

Okay, wait - so the person agreed to do, say, 2 books for one credit and then only sent the one book that you gave them the credit for?  DEFINITELY report that to R&R.  That's shady, shady, shady.

Lisa - I think the person cancelled the request, and then it moved down the FIFO line.  So, she got the requested book from someone else, but never got her 4 freebies.

that is just wrong that you do a deal with them, they cancel and don't tell you and then you find out you've gone into the FIFO line when you receive the book.

or do you think they forgot to mark it mailed and so it then went into the FIFO system?  that is always possible too.

I'd contact R&R and let them know what is going on.  I don't think you can get any credits back but that would put a black mark against that person's record

That is why you really need to check your orders after you do a deal, especially if you have RCs. Hit the PM button and make sure they are coming from the correct person. Though it is common courtesy (and common sense to most of us) some members do not realize that an order directly from their shelf will go to FIFO if they cancel it.

It really sucks because many times we wouldn't order a book if it wasn't in a deal. I had it happen to me once and now I  don't do deals often and when I do, I check the person on the order repeatedly to make it doesn't change.

I've had a similar situation, which is why I came in this forum today. I ordered 2 or 3 books from someone offering a deal of 3 for 1, then discover that 1 of my chosen books is not available. PBS then assumes that I really want that book, so they pass my name down to the next person with a copy of the title.

I cancel, or rather, I contact them, and then they cancel, AND THEN AGAIN my name gets passed down to the next person with a copy of that title. HOW DO I STOP THE MADNESS? ? ? ??

I have canceled the book as soon as I've spotted it; I do not have this book on my wish list or my reminder list; I really don't know where in the system it is written that I want this book. The only reason I selected it was because person #1 offered me a great deal, but then canceled the book.

Guys --- any suggestions of where else I should cancel this title?

Blessings,

Liz F.

I've offered deals in the book bazaar and have clearly stated in both the deal and in my sig line that I smoke.  I've had to cancel because of RC conditions regarding books from a smoker's home.

The first time, I forgot to let the requestor know that I canceled, but did buddy her a credit to make up for it.  The second time,  I PM'd the person, explained why I had to cancel and reminded her to check to see if the request had rolled over to the next person (in case she wanted to cancel it before they responded).

On your account, there is a "books I've requested" tab, that is the place in the system it is written that you want the book.  There is a cancel button on the request that you can use to cancel the request up to the point that the other member prints the wrapper; at that point you can't cancel.  The sender can, but your request will then be passed to the next person - and you again have an opportunity to cancel before *they* print the wrapper.  You have to catch it during that time, and you have to do the canceling - contacting the other member and asking them to cancel will only move it down the line.

Where is this "Books I've Requested" tab....I just went and checked My Account drop-down menu and there is no such Tab...I think perhaps you are confusing BIR as Books I've Requested?  BIR is actually Books I've Read if I'm not mistaken.

If you don't have the book in a Wish List or Reminder List it shouldn't continue to pass on down the line of FIFO.  Might have to contact the Help Desk.

books I've requested is one of the options in the transaction archive.

if you order a book and the op cancels it it will keep going down the FIFO list because it assumes you want the book. The system does not know that you only ordered this book to get a "deal" on it.

It's the Books I've Requested Tab on your main account page.  If you have any pending requests that you made that haven't been marked mailed yet, they'll be under that tab.  You have to cancel the request or it'll assume you still want the book and keep passing it on to someone else.

I had this happen to me once. The person who offered the deal forgot to mark it mailed. It timed out and went to another person. Luckily I noticed this and canceled before the 2nd request was accepted. I always keep tabs on book deals because of this.

They said she cancelled due to conditions I placed on my account however she asked for replacements in the deal telling me she didnt have 2 of the 5 I asked for in her 5 for 1 deal. I gave 2 replacements then was told that she would have them in the mail. I never got any kind of notice saying that she cancelled and why she did so. That's something I think should be fixed here I think we should be told when the origina sender of the book has cancelled on us in case we have a deal agreement with that individual. Liz, if they have already marked it mailed you won't be able to cancel it. Check and see if its in the tab where books are on their way to me. Thanks to everyone for responding about this because it had me wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if its just me :-)

I'm in the middle of a similar situation.  Thanks to this post I now know to check on status several times a day.  I did a 5/1 deal on Wednesday and it has yet to be accepted by member, she has made no contact at all.  How long does the one request sit before timing out to FIFO.  If she doesnt respond, and I end up cancelling so it doesnt go to FIFO. do I get my credit back?

It's best to PM the  person with whom you are making the deal, as well as post,  since it  opens a personal line  of  communication. I've never had a problem that way, and it's much nicer.

Rose----I did PM and post both.  Anyone know how long request will sit before going to FIFO?

Barbara, if you cancel you will get your credit back.  You can only cancel if the sender hasn't printed the label.  Bret's explanation was excellent (thanks!).

It is possible to get "stuck" unable to cancel in a situation where the sender has printed the label and not mailed.  Liz, you have two choices - either keep a close eye on it and hope you get a chance to cancel, or contact the owners with the Send Feedback button.  If it were me, I would contact the site owners and ask them to intervene.  That shouldn't be happening to you, and I'm sorry that it is.

If people are cancelling on Book Bazaar deals, the site owners would want to know.  Click on Contact Us and Send Feedback and give them the details.  Sorry that happened to you :-(

I had contact with this person that's why I don't understand why she couldn't tell me so I could've cancelled. I always follow-up with pms in case they don't check their forum posts. I also contact again to make sure all books are accounted for in case alternative titles are needed. This is the second time I've had this done from now on I'm writing down names as well as what I've requested to make sure this deosn't happen again.

It's happened to me several times Amber..sometimes in the pm with teh freebies I ask that if there's a problem to please not cancel to let me cancel..there are a lot of books I'll order if I'm getting freebies but dont' want to spend a credit on just that one.

This has happened to me a few times, too.  I've stopped doing any deals in the Bazaar because of it.  It's definitely a bummer when the only reason you are ordering that particular book is because it is part of a deal.

well I just got another message from the pbs team about this and they are basically blaming my having conditions set for this happening and told me to remove my conditions to avoid this happening again in the future. Then to my surprise I got a message from the trader I did the original deal asking if I cancelled the transaction because it wasn't listed on their list anymore. I told them what I was told and how I already got the book and I had no clue what happened. I'm letting this drop even though I feel they should put a program together to let us know when an order is cancelled by someone we originally request from so we have the option of cancelling if it is indeed a deal. I'm a little upset and frustrated over this so I don't think I'll be doing too many more deals on here. I feel like I was treated like my question wasn't worth being discussed with them and really didn't appreciate the sarcastic tone it had. I'll do deals with people but not sure if I'll trust people I haven't already dealt with from now on.

wow, the PBS team said it was your fault for having RC?  that is most bizarre.  ok, sure if you didn't have them she wouldn't have cancelled BUT why couldn't she have PM'd you to say she had cancelled.

I do agree that there should be something in place that is someone cancels due to RC that an email is sent saying the order was cancelled and passed to the next person in the FIFO line.  I had an order cancelled on me once and I passed to another person and didn't understand what the heck happened.  and of course the person that had the deal going didn't PM and tell me that she cancelled because she smoked.  Now I'll ask before ordering on a deal that way I won't order if they are smokers

I've had it happen to me once, when I realized what happend I pm'ed the gal running the deal and asked why she cancelled with out notice and she replied the postage ended up being too costly so she just didn't bother following through with the deals, never an explaination as to why she didn't bother to notify me.  Now I watch deals very carefully.

As for Amber's problem, I don't understand, looking at your last post it reads like the trader accepted even with RC and just hadn't printed the label yet when it dissappeared and went to someone else.  That doesn't sound like a problem with RC but a glitch of some sort.  Of course that doesn't explain why the trader has waited so long to respond, long enough for the book to be accepted, mailed and received before questioning the disappearance.  Sounds fishy to me.

Even if the RC caused it to go on to someone else, the trader had to be the one to decline and she should have PM'ed her right away and say I had to cancel due to your RC's if you still want them buddy me the credit and I'll honor the deal?  Seriously I don't see how the trader isn't at fault here.
