I'm relatively new to the site and back in January was my very first request for a book.  The book was shipped on January 27th.  I did not use PBS shipping or DC so I will only get credit once the package is marked received.  I use Stamps.com because rates are cheaper and DC is discounted & included with printed postage.

About a week after I had shipped I checked the DC, but there was nothing...literally no information.  I thought that was odd.  Most books I sent get scanned withing a couple of days of being shipped either by the post office here or by one in cities close by.  I let it go another week, but still no info so I called my local post office and was told there were snow & ice storms where the book was heading (TX) and to give it another week.  3 weeks went by with no activity at all.

I PMed the person this past Saturday to let him know that the book had been shipped when I had marked it and I had been in touch with the post office, but had gotten nowhere with it.  I also apologized for the delay even though it's out of my hands really (I didn't word it that way.  I just apologized for the delay).  I got no response.

After I sent the message I remember a 1 800 number for the USPS.  I called them and was told to call back on Monday to initiate a trace.  I did so and was told I'd get a call back in a couple of days.  I got the call today that the package was finally scanned leaving NJ yesterday.  I got no explanation for where it had been for 3 weeks.  I once again PMed the guy to let him know the status of his package just a little while ago.

The PBS estimated arrival date is Feb. 23rd.  I don't believe the book will get there before or by then.  It's going Media Mail as it's a hardcover book.

My question is what happens if a book arrives after the estimated date?  I won't get credit until the book is marked received.  What happens if this person marks it lost (maybe he's not paying attention to any PMs for some reason I don't know).  I just don't want to be out a credit for a book that was sent.

If it is not marked received by the date indicated, the system will automatically mark it lost.  The receiver can go into their Transaction Archive after that to mark it received if it arrives later.  When it is marked received, you will receive credit.

On PBS onlly PBS can mark books as lost not individual members like on bookmooch.  If it finally shows a delivery scan and you PM this person and they don't respond within about a week. (I think PBS says to wait 5 days) then contact PBS.  They will mark it received if they see signs of inactivity such as not reading PMs or logging into the account. They will not mark  it received if he contacts you or PBS to say he didn't receive the book-DC scans aren't always accurate.

Yes, the requester can mark the book received from their transaction archive.  Hope the book arrives!

Denise, thanks.  I think it should now that the PO is aware of how long it sat in limbo.  There's a trace on it now.
