Hello everybody!  I have a question about books and the isbn #'s that go with them.  If I had on my wishlist a book with the isbn # 0553382160, which I did and I think that I still do, and the book that I recieved has the isbn # of 055321238, is it the same book?  I was under the impression that the number you order is the number you are suppose to get.  I could be wrong about that though.  So I pm the person and explain this to them.  The resposnse that I recieved was that they were sorry that the book was not what I expected but that it was the same book and they confirmed this through live chat with a PM.  (What is a PM?)  So I guess I am confused.  Am I wrong about thinking that I should have gotten the book with the isbn # that I ordered?  Any feedback would be helpful.

PM is personal message.  And no live chat Tour Guide would tell them it's ok to send the wrong ISBN.  ISBN, Binding, Title and Author are supposed to match.  You have every right to ask for your credit back.

A PM is a private message, used by PBS members to communicate with one another.  You can access Private Messages under the "My Account" tab.

Sometimes a book will have 2 ISBNs associated with it, one with 10 digits and one with 13 digits (the 13 digit ISBNs are a recent addition).  But you won't find any book with 2 10 digit ISBNs assigned to it.  Mary is correct; if the ISBN on the book doesn't match the one you ordered, it is not the same book.  You should mark it "Received, With a Problem" and choose the "Wrong Book" option.  You'll be given a chance to send a message to the sender; politely point out the ISBN differences and request your credit be refunded.

If you have additional questions, feel free to send me a message (click on the PM button near my name).

Kind regards,

PBS Tour Guide

What Cattroina said...and very well too!

Books are to be posted to PBS by ISBN, therefore if the other member had posted correctly this book would not have been offered to you.  Her mistake, RWAP.
