Okay, so I'm reading Glass Houses, the first in the Morganville Vampire series, and the world Caine has created is so familiar!  As if I've read the book & know some of the the characters, but not the plot.  For anyone who has read Many Bloody Returns and/or Glass Houses, is there a story in MBR that maybe features how Eve came to live with Michael?  This is only scenerio that makes sense; that I've read a short story about this "world" before, and I've traded my MBR book so cannot consult it. Anybody?????

Thanks, Leslie

i know i've read a short story about how Eve came to live with Michael, as well as the Morganville Vampire series.  i can't say for sure where that story was, but Many Bloody Returns actually makes perfect sense since that was birthdays and vampires, and the story was on Eve's birthday.  i borrowed that book from the library when it was still new-ish, so i can't check either, but i'm pretty sure you guessed right.

Thanks, Ellen, for that. It's been making me crazy.  I read MBR so long ago, but that story stuck with me - such a creepy town!

I just looked at my copy of MBR and yes the Rachel Caine story in it is about Michael and Eve and is entitled "The First Day of the Rest of your LIfe".

I have MBR and the Morganville vampire series, both unread so far. Does the short story set up the series at all? Or can it be read as a stand alone story, at any time? TIA!

Well, I read the short story long before I even knew about the series & felt it stood alone very well.  If you've got them both, though, it'll just be that much sweeter to start on the series after reading the anthology short story, which apparently is chronologically before Book 1 of the series.
