I have a book that I want to post.  It's a paperback copy, but when I type in the ISBN number, it comes up listed as hardcover.  It's the only version of the book listed and it has 20 wishers.  Can I still post it, even though it's not a hardcover?

Yes, you can still post the book, but not with its ISBN number. This is because the title, author, isbn, and binding type all have to match.

You can post the book as if it does not have an isbn.

You can advertise the book in the book bazaar (I think there is a specific thread for WL books with different ISBNs)

Good luck!

as per help docs:

Non-ISBN items are items Posted by a member onto his or her bookshelf using a customized (not pre-existing) listing.  This is necessary when:

  • The book being posted has no ISBN
  • The book does have an ISBN, but the PBS database is using that ISBN for another version (binding type or Large Print)  of the book
  • The book does have an ISBN, but the PBS database is using that ISBN for a completely different book (this is rare, but it does happen that publishers reuse ISBNs)
  • The book does have an ISBN, but the PBS database does not include a listing for it.

You can also "tag" the hardback's listing page with the PBS number stating it is available as pb.  But if it gets taken go back and take that off.  PBS numbers can only be used once.

You can also post a note up at the bazaar about it.
