Hi all.

I had requested a book on the 18th. It was accepted and said it would be mailed by the 25th. That was yesterday and nothing has changed. It still says will mail by 9/25/09 and it has not gone to my other tab of things coming to me. Is this normal? Will it just get canceled at some time by PBS? Just thought I would check and see if this has happened to anyone else. I have never had it happen before and I have had one canceled but it never went past the date to be mailed by. Thanks for any answers:)

There's a two day grace period. Perhaps the sender needed it this time?

Hope you get your book soon!

It wouldn't hurt to send a reminder PM to mark the book mailed.  They get a 2 day grace period.  Usually if it's on the last day and it's not being marked mailed I send a little PM to remind that it's going to get cancelled.  If it times out then the system will reorder the book for you or put it back on your WL.

After the 2-day grace period is up, on the 28th at just after 3:00 a.m. Eastern Time, the system will cancel that order if it hasn't been marked mailed, and will either order another copy for you automatically, or place you back in your previous positioin on the wish lists.  From the Help Center:

Here is a list of deadlines associated with the PBS swapping process:

  • A sender has 5 days to respond to a request.
  • After accepting a request by clicking "I can mail in the next 2 days", a sender has 5 days to mark the book mailed. The deadline is at the end of the fifth day.

  • After accepting a request by clicking "I can mail later" and choosing an alternate mailing date, a sender has 2 days beyond the alternate mailing date to mark the book mailed. The deadline is at the end of the second day.

A requestor has 48 hours to respond to an offer of a book from her Wish List.

A book has 26 days from the "mailed" date to get to its destination before it is declared "lost in the mail" at PBS.

Thanks everyone.

I just thought it was kind of weird.  I didn't realize you had that 2 day extra there:)

Thanks again!

Well, all is better now! They marked it as mailed at about 9:00 last night. Thanks all!
