Hi,

I am expecting a book that the member sent delivery confirmation on July 12, but whenever I click on the details tab it just lists the initial scan done in the state the book is coming from.  Is this normal for no other scans to be present?  However, the little mail truck appears to have made it to me.  Just curious about this and would appreciate other members thoughts.  Thanks in advance!

It is very normal.  The truck has no real basis for his driving when there are no scans, it is for amusement purposes. The DC is delivery confirmation so the only scan it has to have is that one, if it doesn't go through any sorting facilities along the way, it won't get any scans.

Thanks, Melanie!  Hoping the book will be here soon.  It was a WL book that I have waited a long time for.

Hi Jacqueline,

That's a good question!  I wonder about that too!  Does anybody know about this?

Delivery Confirmation, as Melanie pointed out, is just that.  Confirmation upon delivery.  So yes, the package should be scanned upon delivery.

Thanks, Hunter!  I have just been curious about this book because all the other ones I have received with DC have had scans along the way so I could track them.  Guess I'm just impatient to get it! LOL

I don't blame you for your concern. My local post office and myy distribution center here used to always scan my outgoing packages and that includes all dropped in the blue box with PBS DC. They both all of a sudden stopped doing that  a couple weeks ago so none of my books were scanned in California. They all sat with no scans (just the electronic info received thingy) but thankfully, they're all starting to be scanned as they arrive in the destination states.

Obviously we've had a change here with the Richmond distribution center so it wouldn't surprise me if others are going to have those types of changes too. It freaked me out for awhile because religiously for 2 years my books would have 2 scans before leaving California.. . and lately I was thinking all my books were going lost! lol

Susan - good to know.  I just mailed two books (PBS Postage and DC) and popped them into the blue box at the PO _ we don't have many blue boxes.  I thought they would have been scanned by tonight - but noooo,  However when they pick the books up from my mailbox - they are scanned in 2 hours.  Doesn't make sense - but I guess if I understood I could work for the PO!

Hi,

I started this thread earlier and appreciated everyone's answers and comments.  However, I still am baffled by DC and the scans.  As mentioned before I had a book that showed electronic info received on July 12 and then nothing after that.  In the meantime the little truck arrived at my house and sat there for days with no book delivery.   I know the truck is just for fun, but many times it has been extremely accurate.  After several days I PM the sender and explained the situation.  She responded promptly to my question and said something similar had happened before to a book she sent and that she would check on it for me.  Well now the details show electronic scans all through the state it's coming from and the truck started it's journey back to me.   I think the book  will actually make it to me this time.  Do you think the book got sent back to her and she re-mailed it , or do you think it was never mailed the first time?   It really doesn't  matter so long as I get the book, but I am just curious.  Additionally, I have another book coming to me with DC that is doing the exact same thing as the previously mentioned one.  Only the  1 inital scan and then nothing.  The truck again is sitting at my house.  I guess I'm just finding this odd since all my other books coming DC had the scans and when the truck arrived so did the book.   Is anyone else experiencing odd things with their book deliveries with DC?

The POs are changing their policies due to budgets.  This will mean that some POs will scan more often as they are trying to show traffic and avoid closures.  So ones that are on the bubble to close or merge may scan more often in short term attempt to stay open.  But it also means that some are scanning less as they have fewer workers.

The switch to paying bills online has shifted the flow of mail.  Less mail, less budget.  And a tight economy, so less ads.

Mine only scanned locally if I bring them to the post office which I do sometimes with game books where I buy the PBS DC but not postage.  The ones I just put in the blue box frequently don't get scanned until much further down the line.

It could be that those scans, for whatever reason, just now uploaded into the USPS system or they just synched up with the PBS system.  I wouldn't assume that the person never sent the book or that it was returned to them and re-sent.  If it were returned to sender, the DC would show that.

Once the book scans uploaded to PBS, then the little mail truck reset itself to where the book was scanned.

I must be strange, I never ever check for DC scans on anything coming to me.  I only look at anything like that if the book's about to go lost.  I just figure stuff'll get to me when it gets to me.  It's always those most-wanted WL books that move the slowest too.

Sarah not strange. I usually don't look unless something is about to go lost.  I never check on teh ones I've sent using DC.

I was noticing the fewer scans thing lately, not just on things I've purchased here but almost everything with Delivery Confirmation. I'm getting ready to attend a wedding and have been ordering gifts, clothes, and accessories and got DC on a few things I ordered that were mailed USPS, quite a few of the things had no scans along the way and I was getting really anxious, luckily almost everything has arrived.

When it comes to books, these last two weeks for some reason I've noticed a real lag compared to the past. I think I got spoiled because I had books arriving within days of being mailed and now it seems to be more likes weeks. Oh the perks of Media Mail, it has a mind of it's own. I did get excited today to get a book that was mailed on Thursday but it was sent First Class which still seems to be making it rather fast.

I always use DC through paypal.  I live in Hawaii and it is rare to have any tracking info on the USPS site for 2-3 weeks, usually when the raft finally gets to CA.  But USPS scanning does seem to be rather erratic lately.

I am new to the site but will always use DC for the books I send via Media mail as I expect a lot of them to take longer than the 26 days, as is already the case.  I also drop off my books at larger/busier POs in the hope that they get on that slow boat a bit quicker :) lol!

I would suggest using DC for all members mailing to Alaska and Hawaii.

And as a courtesy to fellow members, so as they do not have to wait for the slow boat, any books that are less than 13ozs, I will send First Class as it doesn't cost much more and I get to use the credits then.
