I just sold a book through Amazon and I'm not sure what they mean by "Standard Shipping." Their explanation page doesn't specify a type, just the time frame the book should arrive in.

Hmm... based on their explanation, I'd ship Media if Standard Shipping is requested.  Generally stuff arrives in plenty of time to meet that two-week window if you ship promptly.

I've sold a few books through Amazon and I've always shipped Media Mail with Delivery Confirmation.

Media would be nice, it's a pretty big book and I'm going to have to buy an envelope to fit it! Thank for the input.

You could conceivably use stuff around the house--I've turned a cereal box inside out and wrapped it snuggly around a book, or used several layers of wrapping paper.  The key thing is using packing tape along seams and edges.  You can usually use just about anything as long as you're diligent with the packing tape :)
