Hi there!  I have been reading many posts here about books received with water damage.  I just received my first swapped book and it has a tiny bit of water damage, maybe an inch in the lower right corner of the book.  I do not mind, but what if I want to list this book when I am finished reading it?  I did not mark the book as received yet( I just got it today).  What to do?

If the book's got water damage (whether or not that's acceptable to you) it is not postable here.  You should mark the book Received With a Problem and note the water damage in the comments section.  If you want to, you can PM the sender and ask for your credit back but they're not obligated to refund it to you.

Marking it RWAP gets it on record that that person sent out an unpostable book.  If they make a habit of that, action will be taken against them.

Once you're done reading the book, you should not repost it.  You can offer it as a freebie with an order from your shelf if you'd like but you can't ask a credit for an unpostable book.

I would have to agree with Sarah because the guidelines don't say a smidgen of water damage it says water damage so no matter how small any water damage makes the book unpostable.  I would mark it Received with a Problem and nicely request my credit be refunded...also, I usually state a timeframe for them to respond (usually 6 days and then I report them for no response on the 7th).

Welcome Laura!

Is it possible that it got wet in transit?  not sure what the packaging looked like.  I'm not saying that it happened, but something to consider when marking it RWP because there is an option to select if it was done in transit.  If it was done in transit then it is not the sender's fault.  Just an FYI since you are new.

thanks!  It is possible it happened in transit because it was not wrapped in plastic-it was mailed in a bubble mailer.  But the water spot is dry, the book did not sit in my mailbox-I got my mail right away and it was mailed on the 26th from the same state.  I guess I will mark it RWP,,I will pm the sender.

So I marked the book RWP- and there was a spot to send the sender a message and I did.  Do I need to pm her too, or should I wait?

No you don't need to PM her as well.  That would just send her the same message twice.  The site will already be contacting her and letting her know about the problem with the book, as well as forwarding your message to her.

Welcome to the site, Laura!! Happy Swapping.

Also, after this has been resolved one way or the other (give her at least a week to reply to you), if you asked for your credit back, you can submit follow-up info on whether or not the problem was resolved to your satisfaction in your Transaction Archive.

the sender said the book was fine when she mailed it to me, I guess I will just read it and send it as a freebie when I am done or give it to a friend-thanks for your warm welcome

Hi Laura,

I've had a couple of damaged books and the sender always seems to think the book was fine.  When I pressed the issue they just got more defensive.  I guess in my case, if I've reported it as RWP and they don't sound happy about it I'll just forget the credit and go on with my life.  It sure doesn't hurt to ask, though!

I like your bookshelf!  I've put a couple on my reminder list for later.

I hope you have many positive swaps in the future! =0)

Lisa
