i ordered a book on 6/3.  It was canceled on 6/9 due to timing out.  Sonce there were no other copies available, it was put on my wish list (where it is now).  Last night I received a PM from the requestor, wanting to know if I received the book.  I PM'd back stating the situation, telling them that since it timed out it went to my WL, and there is no record of any transaction - not on my "books on their way" list, so I didn't even know it was sent.  My question is this:  if the book timed out, and she never accepted it, how did she get my mailing address to send it?  Don't you have to actually accept a request before the address shows?  I never thought about this and I don't have any requests from me pending so I can check.

The book should be in your Transaction Archive with a red X.

They probably accepted the request and mailed it but forgot to click "mailed".

When the request timed out it was removed from your account tab.

I would ask the sender when did they mail the book.

I once received a package BEFORE it timed out and they forgot to click mailed.  They were a fast mailer!

Thanks!  I did ask her when she sent it and if she has tracking info, because I can't check on my end, but haven't heard anything back.  I was curious because it never even showed accepted - it just timed out.

Your welcome!

Now you have to decide if you want to put the book on your wl on hold.

That IS strange, JoAnne.  I wonder if it rolled over to someone else just after your request timed out.  If she saw that request, accepted and mailed it, then mistakenly clicked on your name to PM from her trans. archive when she asked about receiving the book -- instead of the member it was actually sent to... (does that make sense?).  You might want to ask her if the book was actually mailed to YOU.     DUH (can't even ask 'What was I thinking - obviously, I wasn't!)...  Sorry.  blush

Anna if a sender lets a request time out it does not roll over but is removed from from their bookshelf.  I think JoAnne ordered the only copy available of a book.

Anna, the other day a pot I was filling with water shifted, fell in the sink and broke my china plate.  A broken piece almost fell in the garbage disposal.  The I tried to grab paper towels to get the broken shards out of the sink while seeing the empty cardboard tube.  Not a good brain/coordination day for me.

The last two books I have mailed out have been received by the person around a week after I mailed them.  These are the first ones that I've had a tracking number from the post office and I had pm'd the one person before I mailed it to let her know that the cover had a little torn part on it and make sure it was okay.  I never heard back from her and I sent her another message to check to see if she had received it and never heard a word but that very night she posted that she received it.  I mailed another book on 7/17 and checked on it last night and it was delivered on 7/23 but it still hasn't been posted that it was received.  Whenever I receive a book, I go ahead and mark it received that day unless something happens and I have to wait until the next day.  This is just a vent.  But does anyone else ever have this problem

For me Carole, I don't mind someone waiting a couple of weeks to mark it received (I do mark received the day I get them uness I'm away when they arrive). I like to give people time in case they are away, or they didn't receive it when the tracking said delivered. That being said, my pet peeve is when they mark it received right around the time it's due to go lost. Usually, by then, they've had the books for 3 weeks (give or take a couple of days) and I think the pbs emails trigger them to mark it received.

Sometimes they are never marked received and then I write PBS and then they try to see what's up and then I get the credit....
