I was a bit surprised and peeved to see that a tag that, yes I use, "PBS Send", marked for "tag as inappropriate".  I guess I just don't get some of the current policing.

I lost EVERY book I owned in Hurricane Ike and I am trying to rebuld my collection with my credits as I have no "book stock" to speak of.  I have started making notes- I have to as I get replacements for beloved books long gone now, and maybe that is just the only way to go, eh?.  Maybe a committee should be formed and a list sent out to ALL members as to what is deemed appropriate and inappropriate.  I should probably not send this, but I am way beyond my last nerve on this one and figure I have to fight insurance companies and get steamed but I figure maybe I can log on and get a little happiness here.  Yes, I know it's on a run-on  sentence but I don't care at the moment.

Thanks Cindy and Bless Your Heart!  Thanks also for your suggestions.

I wish I could remove the post, I just lost it at the wrong time and place.  I have been excited that our home was finally being worked on and now the city has thrown a monkey wrench and I got off the phone with them and than came here and found it there with a big red "R".  It's still there I guess not enough people have reported me - I'm sure my little girl outburst will fix that fast. ;)

Off to put my big girl panties on and call city hall and then I am off to read a book that was indeed a PBS Send,

Paula

Well inappropriate is supposed to be something that can apply to all books but is negative like "no dust jacket" or "stained" or something like that. Now if you put "Diva-sent" or "Diva-bin 120" or something like that then people know it's a personal tag.

So I'm thinking Cindy might be right and it was removed because you used PBS and they don't want it to be thought of us a PBS issued tag.

When I tag I use my dogs name so it's personal.  Unless it's a generic tag that applies to all books like the series order # or genre.

Paula, the tags that are supposed to be removed are ones that other members might feel pertains to them if they are trying to order a book--I would not be confused by PBS Send but maybe someone thought some members would be.  Or maybe some members just don't understand what the "inappropriate" designation is supposed to accomplish--it's mainly supposed to weed out descriptions of specific copies of books, like "has water damage" or "torn cover" and the like.  I think the suggestion to start with your initials is a good one, hopefully then your tags will be recognized as individual by other members.

Paula - all tags have a red R on them. You should only be seeing the X on your own so thats a little weird, but the R is just the method to mark them a inappropriate, it doesn't mean that they have been reported. You won't know that unless it just disappears. My guess is that if you are seeing it with a red R someone else used it. Maybe they accidentally hit the R so they retagged it with your tag?

And rant away if you want. Removal of personal tags is something I've went a bit nuts on at times too. I'll never understand why people are messing with personal tags. If you don't understand it move on its personal, if it is clearly inappropriate as PBS has explained, then mark it.

Amen!  This has been such a pet peeve of mine, and I don't even use personal tags.  I believe it is the "policing" mindset that gets me going.

I agree, Paula, go ahead and rant...we all need to at one time or another  :-)

I'm not sure if this would help or not, but there are the +Note buttons, which leave personal notes on listings that only you can see (and therefore can't be removed by anyone else).  I can't believe that after all this time people are still marking personal tags as inappropriate...seemed as if we had dealt with that months ago.  Sorry you got burned, hopefully you can find a way around it and get back to getting back on track!

I'd like to second using the notes that James mentioned. I just started using them and it's working very well for me, especially since the note appears anywhere I come across the book. Simply hovering your pointer over the note causes a small pop-up appear that has the note in it, but since I only use the notes for one thing, I never bother reading it. I like it much better than the tags, mainly because it is so much more noticeable to me.

Ok I just tried the notes thing.  I didn't realize they flagged the book like that. I'm going to convert all my personal tags to notes-not that I have that many but still.  I like the idea of making notes on reminder books and then deleting them from my reminder list. Most of them I'll probably never order unless I start doing BOBS again or looking at deal offers in the bazaar.

I would rather use the notes feature than the tag because it puts a yellow sticky on the book cover and if you put your mouse over it you can read the notes.  This seems more logical than a tag and you can put more on it and you don't have to worry about what anyone else things about it

The problem I have with Notes is there is no way to create lists from them that I have found. It is for marking a single book. With Tags I can generate a list of books I have with that tag (which I do A LOT) and I have seen people using tags when looking for letting other members see things on their various lists. I would like to see them make Notes as functional as Tags before they let people willy-nilly remove personal Tags. Currently there is no feature offered that gives me the information some of personal Tags do.

Were your tags deleted? Or do they just have a little red R next to them?

If your tags were marked as inappropriate by enough people they would be deleted.  If there is just a little red R and when you hover over the R it says tag as inappropriate, then that is normal and your tags are not in jeopardy. The phrase "tag as inappropriate" when hovering over the little R is a tooltip, telling users what the function of the little red R is.

All tags have the little red R next to them.

As far as I know, and I could be wrong, there is no notification from PBS when people mark your tags as inappropriate.
