What qualifies as "contemporary fiction"? Does it have to do with a time limit, e.g., earlier than year X is no longer considered contemporary?

I don't know, but I tend to think of contemporary fiction as stuff written by folks who are still alive and working, or who are alive and now retired from the active writing life..
