I think once you hold the book, it takes the book out of FIFO.  I've heard that putting your book on hold moves it to the back of the line.  Not sure...I'll go check out the help docs.

yeah, I couldn't find it either...just holding the whole shelf not an individual book

I have a clue indicating that putting a book on hold does not move it to the back of the line:    one time I posted a book & put it on hold for a couple of days.  When I took the book off hold, the post date showed up as 2 days prior.  Sorry I couldn't find it in the help docs.

individual book hold takes the book out of FIFO.

bookshelf hold leaves your books in FIFO.

thanks for trying- i was just having a series of pms with someone and we were trying to figure this out.

i have a few heavily posted books in my tbr and was wondering if this would work to get them in line.

not something i am probably going to do- seems like alot of extra work- and i am lazy

i also was reading some other thread about someone here who posts several books at a time (to get them in fifo) then puts her shelf on vacation hold til she reads them... also sounded like more work than i want to do....

but thanks so much for trying to help me find out!

it makes sense to me. like i do alot of bob deals and there is a box when you click books rcve to add them to your shelf on hold. i was also curious about the fifo from them too

thanks so much

I don't think it is the Help docs, but it is in the forums somewhere (posted by Richard) and I believe it was in one of the past newsletters. But a book on Hold removes it from the FIFO and it will be posted into that line at the time it comes off of the hold. My guess that this is probably to avoid people doing exactly what you are trying to do, get their books in line before they are actually willing to mail them. The way it is set up, it allows the people who are ready to send them to get in the front of the line.

I will see if I can dredge of Richard's post confirming this.

we were also trying to come up with some way for the book bazaar deals... if you count on someone to do the deal and remove the books from your shelf or place them on hold- and then they do not follow through with the deal- you are out a place in line...

I'm the one who does the post books before I've read them and the go on hold person.  It's not really any extra work. I jsut post the heavily posted books adn go on vacation.  But I have a lot of credits and a lot of books to read.  So I don't have to worry about missed book orders or putting all my WL books on autorequest.

I do because it makes me read the heavily posted TBR books instead of just constantly reading WL or game books.

Yes, I can confirm that putting a book on your bookshelf on hold DOES remove it from FIFO. I found that out the hard way when that feature was first released. I thought it was the same thing as 'vacation hold' but it is NOT! :)

I used to just post one and then read it while it was working its way up FIFO.  I've had good luck with getting those heavily posted books to get ordered right off my shelf-probably because I'm on the forums so much.

The posting a whole bunch of them is a new thing.  I was kind of missing my pre-PBS days when I read a book because I wanted to read it and not because it was WL or I'd used it in a game.   So I looked up a few of my TBR books and posted about 10 that I haven't read yet (actually about 15 but I've read some) that were heavily posted into PBS. A couple mysteries, a couple historicals, some contemporary romance to give me variety.   Now I'm staying on hold until they are all read.

If I was low on credits then I wouldn't have done that but I have a lot and with the huge TBR I don't mind not sending out books or getting any WL offers for awhile.  I put a few OOP/HTF titles on auto because I didn't want to miss those.  2 were actually posted during that time so I'm glad I did. As well as some audiobooks because I just put them on my IPOD and repost them.
