I have DC and mailed out 3 books (diff addresses) today at 4:30 and still haven't gotten my 3credits.  Is this typical?

You got PBS DC or some other DC??? It's instant if you buy the PBS postage and DC.  The quick credit requires the PBS DC be scanned by the USPS before  you get your credit.  And the USPS is only required to scan the DC when it arrives at its destination post office.  They usually do scan it before that, though.

It depends on your local post office.  Some will scan it right away.  Some don't.  And it may depend on if you put it in the slot or hand it to a person.

Handed to a person.  Same post office as usual.  Same time as usual.  Usually get credit same day.

Sometimes there is a longer time between when the USPS computers sync with the PBS computers. I've had it happen on rare occasions where it took a couple of days due to glitches in their communication with one another, but typically when I was just buying DC (and not the entire PBS postage as I do now) if the book is scanned right at the PO while I was purchasing postage, I used to get my credit within 12-24 hours.

If you didn't watch them scan it--that is, if you had the postage and DC on the book and just handed it over the counter, and the book was sent media mail, they may not have scanned it immediately but just put it in the MM bin and it won't get scanned til that's full and sent along to a distribution center. Mine almost never get scanned right at the local PO unless I'm buying the postage right at the counter, it's usually at the distribution center in Minneapolis where the first scan occurs as opposted to my suburban PO, even when I'm handing them in at the counter.

My credits usually show up about 3-4 hours after being scanned. But, sometimes it takes a really long time for PBS to sync with the USPS. Sometimes I get my credit 10-12 hours after the USPS site shows that it was scanned.

You can check USPS.com to see if the DC has been scanned.

It probably won't be scanned until it's delivered.  Either at that point, or when the receiver marks it received is when you will get your credits.

So you are saying I don't need to worry, that when received I will get the credit even though it had pbs DC?

You might, maybe have to wait until the book is marked received to get your credit.

Your book might get scanned somewhere along the way.  I know most of my books are scanned when they get to one of the big centers.

The PO is supposed to scan when the book is delivered.  If it gets scanned before then, it is a bonus.

Even if your book is not scanned, you will get credit if the book goes lost.

Thank you.  Received 1 credit for 1 of the books this evening.  Assuming eventually I'll get the others.
