I always use QC/DC. Can't use the printable postage as I don't have a postage scale or the room to put one, so the DC is the perfect option for me. I always take my books to the PO to mail, and they always scan them in front of me (because I have to pay the other bit that's due). In the past, I always get my credit overnight the night I mailed it. The last two times I've mailed books, I didn't. Last time, I think I got it when it got scanned along the way. This time, I mailed them (and marked them mailed) yesterday. I looked at the USPS website and it has them marked as accepted--here it says nothing.

Anyway, is anyone else haing this problem or is it just me? If many others are, it's probably the system. If it's just me, I'll contact TPTB. :)

Yep.  Tuesday I mailed out 6 books, 5 with DC because it wouldn't let me use DC for one.  Before I got home 3 of them already showed up.  The next morning another one showed up.  And the last one I still haven't received.

Beth -Are you marking the books as mailed before or after you mail them? It is possible that you are running into a rare problem where the scan is uploaded in the USPS system and transmitted to PBS prior to the book being marked mailed. When that happens, you don't get credit for that scan, the system needs to wait for the next one.

If it looks like that is the case, you may need to mark the book mailed before you go to the post office in order to get your Quick Credit.

I've always marked them mailed when I get back from the PO. There have even been a couple times where I forgot and marked the next day. Never been a problem. The times I marked the next day, I got immediate credit. *shrug*

Beth - same experience,  but many have found that they had to wait until the next scan.  I also found this in the help docs.

How does delivery confirmation work

The timing of QuickCredit varies with your mailing method, and the scanning policy of your local PO.  QuickCredit can be granted hours after mailing, or it can take a few days. The average member using PBS-DC gets QuickCredit 5 days sooner than he or she would have if PBS-DC was not used  Read here about ways to "speed up" your QuickCredit.

This is the part of the Help Doc that I was referring to:

Mark your book mailed as soon as possible after mailing!

  • If the first scan happens before the book is marked mailed on the PBS site, it will not "count" to earn credit.
  • Only scans after a book has been marked mailed will grant QuickCredit.
  • You are usually fine if you mark the book mailed within 2-3 hours of having mailed it, even if you watched the postal employee scan the barcode at the counter.  That counter scan went into that PO's computer, and there is a variable delay before the information is transmitted to the USPS main computer, and then to PBS.
  • The scan transmission can happen within a hour in some cases--if you find that your PO has a habit of quick-transmission of scan date, you can just mark your books mailed right before you go out to mail them.

Well, I guess I'll risk the occasional "You mailed late" email when something happens and start marking them before I go to the PO. I don't understand why in the past it's always been fine and now it doesn't work anymore.

What ticks me off is that I use the DC to guarantee my credit, since I mail from the PO. Now, if it gets lost, it's tough noogies for me because I want to make sure the book is mailed before I mark it. I hope if that happens, my copy/pasting the PO website in an email to TPTB counts. Otherwise, I won't be using DC anymore.

They did do some maintenance on the Quick Credit recently or your post office could have changed their uploading features.

If the USPS site shows a scan, send that info in to the site and see if they can trigger the Quick Credit manually.

I'm having the same problem. I sent PBS a message about it very recently (so I haven't heard back). The USPS website is showing the books on their way, but the quick credit is not loading! One of the books was even received before a quick credit was granted....

I had the same problem with credits not showing up but the DC on the USPS site saying the books have been delivered.  I emailed PBS this morning and this is the response I got:

Thanks for contacting us. The USPS is having some problems with their e-DC notifications for books that were mailed on 9/30, so they have not been sending us scans for these books.

Sometimes my P.O. is skipping the initial scans too... usually when they hit the Jacksonville stop they get scanned, though.  It's been taking a few days.
