I have an RC that says I do not want any abridged audios. This does not apply to a paper book. I thought anyone might be able to figure that out. Someone canceled a wish listed book that was offered to me because of my RC. I guess they thought I thought it was an audio book. They canceled the book because it was not an audio bk. I just re-worded my RC to say it only applies to audio bks.

Some people are going to turn down all RC's.  When I have to decline, I always put "does not meet RC" since I don't feel as if I have to explain.  No matter what your RC is - some will just decline and move on.

Hi Margaret,

I've never had RC's but I've heard you can turn them on and off.  Couldn't you just tuirn that RC on for audio books.

Newer members may not realize that you didn't add your RC for that particular order.  They may think that you thought you were ordering an audio book. The programmers have given us the option of toggling our RCs on or off when we place an order now, so if your RC doesn't apply to an order, you can toggle it off.

I really think turning your RC on and off is he best solution.  I have a book jacket RC, but I really only care if the book is for my keeper shelf, and rather than trying to make it clear to people that it doesn't apply to pbs, etc. it seemed best just to turn it on when I need to.

You need to put the books where you want it toggled off on 48 hour request, not auto request.  There is a box to check on the 48 hour request to turn off RCs.  They are automatically put on auto requests.

I had the same RC at one time - I worried that I might get an abridged audio book, so very clearly (I thought), my RC said "If I've ordered an audiobook, please make sure it is unabridged."

The first book (paperback) that I requested (actually it was a wishlisted book I really wanted finally being offered to me) and they declined saying "this is a paperback, not audio"

I ended up just taking the RC off...

I had someone offer me a WL book today, and my RC says that hardback books MUST come with the dust jacket.  The sender declined my order saying that the book didn't have the dust jacket.  When I checked (out of curiousity), the book was a ........... paperback!  Which doesn't even have a dust jacket!

I don't think some people read the RC all the way through...

When I was new I had two orders come up saying something to the effect of the receiver would not accepts books without CDs if the books originally had CDs. Being new I didn't realize hat this rc was put on all orders and thought it meant the receiver wanted CDs with the book I was sending (they were ols textbooks of mine). One receiver did pm back that she didn't think this book in question had a cd (which made me wonder why she had that condition on it). But I know more now. So, my point is that it may be that these senders were confused too and have erred on the side of caution. Which I do too. If I have any concerns at my book won't meet the rc (if I feel there is any subjectivity or ambiguity), I decline because of RCs.

I'm a long time member-that had someone RWP them for sending a hardcover when they wanted an audio book. The listing was correct and it was their mistake. There ws no RC but as someone this has happened to, I can see how someone would think maybe you were ordering the wrong version.  I don't PM over RCS either so if I had any doubt, I would just decline.

Margaret you made me look. I have some audio books that say on the listing "abridged" or "unabridged" , but some don't say anything on the listing. I am glad you asked this question.

That is why I put the RC about audio books. The listings do not always say if they are abridged. I had someone send me a PM asking my what unabridged and abridged meant. Sometimes I will look the ISBN up and try to find out for myself if it is abridged etc.
