Darn thing submited before I wrote a thing! I've had two WL'd books come up yesterday. Today both were turned down. I thought my RC was good and I know other people have told me the same. But, believe it or not one said sorry, smoker. Okay that was not a problem, I'd rather not have a book from a smoker. The second said - Sorry - too many conditions - i will send to next person on wait list without conditions. These are my conditions - is it too much? Hello Fellow PBS Member,
Thanks To top it off this is a RC I got today for one of my books, no please or thanks involved but, I can send the book but gee according to the person who declined mine this is too many conditions. It just floored me I think. I will accept books that are clean with no rips, stains or marking on pages of book. Writings on inside cover of book and age discoloration is acceptable. Ex-library books in good condition are OK as well. Last Edited on: 8/13/09 4:32 PM ET - Total times edited: 2 |

No, you just got a cranky sender. I think your RCs are fine. Hope the next book poster is better. Last Edited on: 8/13/09 4:30 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Sara, you made me feel better already! I thought the group and I decided my RC was short and sweet and polite. Thanks! |

For that sender, any is too much so don't sweat it and move on with life. |

Or the decliner is one of those people who claim to have no plastic in their house. Or perhaps (s)he is an envelope-stuffer kind of mailer and any more effort can not be bothered with. I would accept your RCs.

Your RCs look perfect to me ;) I would have no problem with them. As for the one you just got - ooof. Decline! |

Hi Geri, Please don't feel bad! Your RC's are just fine. I would have absolutely no problem sending a book to you. Hope you are able to get your books from someone else. The only ones I decline are those that are too subjective and once I had to decline because it said wouldn't accept from households with cats. I have one cat, but she had never been around the book. I still declined it though. |

I'm not fan of RCs in general but I would have accepted yours. I think you just got a couple of people that don't accept any RCS at all or didn't want to be bothered with the plastic. I don't normally wrap in plastic but I will if someone has an RC asking. |

Geri, Your RC is perfectly fine. Some people are just curmudgeons and don't like RCs at all no matter how well written. Shrug it off.
The RC you received is a PBS guideline repeating Hoot with a capital H. I will give him or her kudos for using positive language instead of the typical will not, won't accept, do not, etc. I will accept books that are clean with no rips, stains or marking on pages of book. Writings on inside cover of book and age discoloration is acceptable. Ex-library books in good condition are OK as well. |

Geri - agree with everyone your RC is perfect. You just had one of the senders that just turns down RCs and does not read them. |

Thanks everyone! You did make me feel better. Sometime something will just hit the wrong nerve and my little feelings are hurt. As for the RC I received I can accept it because the book has been in a non-smoking home and I'm the only one who read it. If it was something I had received in a swap I'd have declined because I don't know it's ancestry. Because I have RC's I make an effort to accept others, except the subjective. Not gonna PM either. |

I'll add to the chorus who think your RCs are just fine, clear, short, and polite. I'd be happy to be reminded that someone particularly wanted books to be wrapped in plastic before mailing.

I think both RC's are fine. The one you got just repeats the PBS conditions, which I know bugs a lot of people but doesn't bother me. Some people just don't like RC's, and unfortunately when you decline an RC, PBS forces you to explain why. Which I think makes some people cranky. |

Or the decliner is one of those people who claim to have no plastic in their house. Sophia, I object to this, believe it or not there are people who are trying to do what they can to preserve a livable earth for generations to come, and reducing or eliminating use of plastic is one way to do that. |

A few months ago I got an order declined with the message that I was an idiot, and to let a normal person order the book. Some people hate RC's. My RC is I only want MMPB sized books. For the reason, that I ordered some paperbacks, and received the large softcover size (hardcover size). I like to carry my books to work, DR's offices, etc., and it is easier to carry the MMPB's. People are definitely cranky.

Sophia, I object to this, believe it or not there are people who are trying to do what they can to preserve a livable earth for generations to come, and reducing or eliminating use of plastic is one way to do that. I apologize for sounding snarky. I believe in the preserving the environment and have tried to reduce the amount of plastic in my own home. I use recycled materials to package the books I send out . But I sincerely doubt that anyone has achieved a completely plastic-free existence. But please feel free to prove me wrong. |
