Received a book today and the sender had the "____" (fill in the blank) to send a note with it...

"The person who I got this book from did the underlining on the pages.  However, the book is still in very good reading condition.  I personally wished people would not write in the books."

Yep she sent the book with the highlighting and underlining it.  Plus the spine is showing through (not pinholes) between two pages and then the next two pages are starting to come loose.

Then to top it off she includes a brochure for some Rental Cabins nearby where she lives.

Oh and BTW she hasn't even marked it mailed but, I've received it....yep I checked it is the same person.

So, sent her a note and told her she needed to mark it mailed so I could mark it RWAP and that I would want my credit back, sent links to Conditions and Textbook options...and then let her know she can't send advertisements.  She is not a new member, has been here since sometime in 2009.

Yikes, at least you know if she refuses to refund your credit, you have the proof she knew she sent an unpostable. I wonder if PBS would look at a picture of her note and intervene even though it's not through a PM that she admitted to sending an unpostable on purpose.

I've learned that length of membership doesn't mean knowledge of the site. Longtime members come onto the forums and ask basic questions that every member should know, the absolute worst, nastiest books I've received were from long time members who seemed clueless that stained nasty books aren't allowed.  They were also the only ones that were rude about my RWP and refused credit refunds.

Personally, if I received an obviously unpostable book that hadn't been marked mailed, I probably wouldn't have said anything at all about it unless they contacted me first.

She hasn't marked it mailed - I wouldn't worry about marking it received - with ot without the problem!  That way you don't have to worry about your credit cause it'll go lost!  JMO

Well if this is her normal way of doing things, she could possibly (likely?) have complaints against her already. I get tired of copy/pasting things from the help docs that people should already know before sending me their crusty falling-apart sorry excuses for books.

Advertising rental property to total strangers that live in other states? Oh, that's classy and makes perfect sense. wink

Though, it just occured to me that she could possibly have been using a brochure as a bookmark and forgot to remove it. Could it be?

Nope she was not using the brochure for a bookmark, it was in the front of the book with the note explaining about the underlining and highlighting..

She marked the book mailed today and I marked it RWAP like I told her I would, explained again why I was marking it that way, etc. Did request my credit be refunded and amazingly she did but, with a return comment that she felt the "Christian thing to do" is not complain about a perfectly good book that is not dirty, old, and on it's last legs.  Oh how I wanted to respond with well IMHO it would have been the "Christian thing to do" not to send a book that violated posting guidelines unless she had followed the textbook exception....I was good and didn't but, oh how I wanted too.

Sent a note when I marked it RWAP about the advertising brochure in the book.

I would have. Something along the lines of  "I admit I am a Jew, so I must apologize for not being educated in the proper Christian procedure for being taken advantage of."

I think it's a cheap trick when a person does something wrong and then berates the other party for not being "Christian" if they dare to complain. Way to redirect blame.

Glad you got your credit back with minimum fuss.

I'd report her to the team on the advertising thing. That is a huge no no as it violates not only our rules, but the rules of media mail (assuming it was sent that way).

Ditto what Liesl said on reporting the advertising to the Team.  I've had to do so in the past, and the Team's always been very responsive.
