Subject: RWAP credit return before returning damaged book?

Requiring the return of the credit and postage (credit or postage) before returning the book is the usual advice in the forum.  I'm not seeing that in the Help Center.  Can someone point it out to me and give me a link to the Help Center for it?

This link only says send a SASE to the receiver.  I've sent feedback to include the possibility of a credit instead.

If it's not there, it should be since senders who send RWAPS tend to be a bit cranky about the rules.

I seem to recall that the Help Center document to which you linked used to include mention of a credit being acceptable compensation for return postage (on top of the refunding of the original credit used in the transaction). I believe it also used to list the exchange of money via paypal or other mutually acceptable methods. It would appear, if my memory is correct, that the document in question has changed. However, I'm unsure as to whether this represents a change in policy, as if to say that credit or monetary compensation are no longer preferred or acceptable.

If someone with certain knowledge on this topic doesn't respond to your question, you might want to use the Feedback Page to ask PBS for the current policy regarding the return of damaged materials.

I just checked and don't see it anywhere either.  The important part is that the receiver does not have to send it back at their expense.  I've only had 2 people ask me to send the book back and I gave them an option...I didn't really care how they paid for it, I just knew I wasn't going to so I left it up to them whether they sent me money, stamps, or a credit.  I did make it clear, though, that I had to receive some sort of payment for postage and my credit refund before I'd send the book back.

One sender insisted I read the book immediately and then post it right back to her WL so then I wasn't losing out on a credit.  Umm...no, not how it works lol  That book had so much water damage it went right in the trash

Good luck getting it worked out!

I don't see it either, may have been discarded with the recent updates.  With snail mail as the only option, these RWAP transactions could really drag out.  Maybe TPTB is mildly discouraging senders from demanding the return of RWAP books?

I'm curious now  indecision

Looks like it has changed...I think I would just be inclined to decline sending the book back--I mean, if it's an RWAP, why would they want to pay another credit or postage costs to get it back? They can't post it again...or shouldn't. Maybe they will, thinking this recipient is just being "picky." Maybe you're right Denise, and this is PBS' way of trying to get those problem books out of circulation.

I mean, if you WANT to send it back and trust them to give you a second credit or PayPal you some money for postage after they get the book, that's all between you and them, but personally, I'm not going on a limb to pay for THEIR mistake any more than I already have by being the recipient of a crappy book I can't repost.

I was more looking for a "sender should not expect the receiver to return the book until after the book credit has been refunded and compensation for returned postage is received"  statement.

Maybe I'll just send in feedback about that now.

I couldn't find that part in the new guidelines either Ruth.  It used to be there in very clear wording  (returning RWAPs is optional, and the additional postage is to be compensated before) both seem to be MIA.

Julie, there's always an exception  wink
