I recieved a WL book that I had been waiting on. On my WL this book came up as hardcover and in my order details it says it is a hardcover book. But what I got is a paperback. When you enter the ISBN on the site, it comes up as hardcover,  Could this be PBS error? Looks like this is the only ISBN for this book in the system at all.

Do I mark it recieved and move on? I don't care that it's paperback,  it doesn't bother me that is not hardcover as the site said it would be, I would have ordered either copy that became availiable. So I do not wish for any "action" on the part of the sender, but the fact still remains that  paperback isn't what I clicked on.

Like I said, I'm not one bit upset that this isn't a hard book, I just want to follow whatever site protocol is for something like this.

You need to mark this as a RWAP, wrong book.  You do not need to ask for the credit.  But the sender needs to know that the binding must match.  For some members, this makes a big difference.  The sender needs to know it is a problem.  PBS needs to know that they did this.  Just in case it is a repeated problem.

You really should mark it RWAP even if you don't ask for a credit return. The sender is supposed to enter the book into the system without an ISBN if all the criteria don't match. There are many books out there that use the same ISBN for both hardcover and paperback. When a book is being posted, part of the message that pops up is "Do the Title, Author, ISBN and Book Type match your book EXACTLY?" They had to agree before the book was posted into the system.

Thanks.

Thats what I was thinking I should do, I just hate to do it.

I'm sure the sender just typed in the ISBN and assumed it was the right book. Or maybe even just shrugged it off due to there not being a listing for a paperback on the site.. IDK...I always HOPE that any rule breaking around here is unintentional, or maybe I'm just, naive. lol

BUT I do understand there are swappers out there that this would be a BIG deal to. RWAP it is.

Thanks again.

I don't assume it was done purposely. I recently did it myself. I just didn't check closely enough when I posted the book and assumed all was well. I got a RWAP for it and I don't blame the guy at all for doing it. I gave him a refund even though he didn't ask for it.

Do not feel bad. You deserve to get what you ordered.

ETA: If you're satisfied with reading the version you got, be sure to remove it from your WL. The system will assume you want another one when you click RWAP and put you right back at the top of the waiting list.

At the very least Beth, pm the sender and let them know this transaction could have been RWAP.  Include a nice reminder to double check the binding when posting books.  Hopefully the reminder will help the sender avoid problems with future swaps.

I agree that the sender should be made aware.  When I've posted 20 or 30 books at a time, I sometimes don't look as closely as I should at the binding.  This should help them remember to double check.

Also make sure it's not an Advanced Reader's Copy.  Those arent' postable on PBS.  Frequently the ARC of a hardcover book will be a tradesized paperback.  It'll have  lots of publishing on probably the back cover and should say somewhere "uncorrected proof" or "review copy" or something like that.

It's probably not an error with PBS but either an ARC or a publisher reusing an ISBN.  Which they do pretty frequently.

Thank You for reminding me Lisa!

I would have completely forgotten to do that!

Thanks again everyone for the advice. I marked it and sent a PM explaining.

By any chance was it ordered as a result of a message the system occassionally sends out...something to the effect.....

"A member has posted a books similiar to the one you have wishlisted; if you want to order it click this link"?

I get those types of messages every once in a while.
