Commodore Stephen Decatur is one of our national heroes with whom you may or may not be familiar, but brave men like Decatur should never be forgotten. You will learn on the first page he is do die at his home near the White House because of his part in a duel between him and another naval officer. Decatur's story is one of a man with little education determined to ascend to prominence by choosing the navy as his springboard, and the story is of how he did it. After reading this interesting book which melds history and adventure you will remember him and his exploits when you hear the "Marines' Hymn". I also found out a good piece of trivia about the origin of the tune of our National Anthem. I am thankful a friend suggested this book to me, and now I suggest you might like it.
