I received a copper rain chain as a gift and will probably wait to hang it outside until late winter or early spring.  I've gone to YouTube and watched some videos on these as I didn't really know what it was.  I'm thinking of  hanging it at the end of my front porch where I can enjoy it from inside or while sitting on the porch swing (which we frequently do during summer rain storms).  Does anyone have experience with these?  How should I handle the rain runoff since I have to remove the downspout?  I'm thinking maybe a rainbarrel even though it won't be the most convenient place for one.

I've seen them but not used one. Do you hang it in the same place the downspout was? If so, where did the water from the downspout go? Maybe you can channel the water out the same direction using a fake "streambed" of rocks and gravel.

It does take the place of the downspout, at least the way I've seen it pictured in the directions.  Cyndi,I think the "streambed" you talk about may be the best, safest thing to do.  I'll probably have to find a way to have it slope away from the house too, but also prevent the rocks from getting washed away.  I really want to make this work... it'll probably be a work in progress, sort of trial and error.
