John Clark, ex Navy Seal takes on a band of terrorists so extreme that if they win, it would be the end of life on earth. I enjoy Tom Clancy's books very much. The action starts on page one and continues throughout the book with very good characterization, so good that you feel you know the people in the books, good and bad. Highly recommend
Modern day thriller with a military/political/tech edge.
