can anyone tell me if I'll need to read the Princess Diary books to understand & enjoy this one?

No, you won't.  It's a romance novel "written" by Princess Mia (and she talks about it in books nine and ten) but it has nothing to do with the continuity of the story.  It's a stand-alone romance novel.

I agree with donnatella. However, if you don't like romance (and we're talking about real romance here, the R-rated version), then you won't like Ransom My Heart. It's definitely not a YA book, although it's enjoyable in its own way.

Thanks girls! That's what I was hoping to hear. I don't mind the  R-rated scenes at all, but I'm surprised to hear this book contains them. I was under the impression is was for YA. Oops, guess I should of posted this in the L&R forum.

I never got past the fifth page when I tried to read it, so I couldn't tell you it was R-rated - though Mia might have suggested that in book 10.  Oh well. :)
