Anyone have any readalongs planned for the new year? I just cleaned and organized my bookshelves. What a job that was with almost 200 books on my TBR list! I have so many, I always have a hard time figuring out what to read next! Currently I'm only about a third of the way through Margaret George's tome, Helen of Troy. Hoping to finish in the next week or two, but I've got to get in gear! Anyway, post here if you're contemplating hosting a RAL, please! Happy New Year to all my PBS buds!

I think it is time for someone else to lead the read alongs.

I nominate Shelly!

Aaack! Are you serious, woman? You know how totally erratic I am with checking in here. Everyone would hate me for abandoning my RAL hostess duties for weeks if not months at a time! I guess we'll just say that anytime anyone is compelled to read a book that they want to read with others, they can start a RAL thread. Did we ever do a RAL for the second Raybourn book? We read Silent in the Grave and then discussed possibly reading the second book, Silent in the Sanctuary, at some point.

Oh I'm not sure I like not having a RAL coordinator!  I like having them planned out at least knowing which months we are doing one.  Maybe we can stick to the same months (Feb, April, June, August, October) and have a different coordinator for each one?  Shelley can do February and others sign up for other months?  You know I HATE willy nilly randomness!

I like Christa's idea!  Shelly are you up to lead the Feb. Read along?  Silent in Sanctuary would be a good one.

How about The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom?  I see it on more reading challenge lists than mine.  Or, maybe Jeanne has suggestions!

Under the heading of dispensing unwanted and unsought advice ...  The Kitchen House would be a great choice! It's a wonderful book and there are plenty of potential discussion points.

And now back to my regularly scheduled programming ...

Ok, I'll do something in Feburary. I see we have a suggestion. Feel free to post others.

Yay Shelley!  Your last official duty at the end of February will be to solicit a leader for April.  That should work, huh?  So far it looks like Silent in the Sanctuary and The Kitchen House are both up for vote, plus any others that get suggested.

I agree with Kelly....Kitchen House would make good discussion. I'll have to find the Cliff Notes version to refresh myself so I can join in the discussion!

Okay, I think I'll go with The Kitchen House as we will already have some takers.  Personally, I don't have the book (and there aren't any copies available here), but I think I'd like to try out my new iPad with Kindle app, so I'll get the digital version. I want to try reading a book electronically.  My guess is that I'll hate it (I'm such a "paper" person in all aspects), but I should try.  I think this is a book DH will enjoy, so it'll be a good place to start - we can both read it. My only beef is that the digital version costs the same as the paperback version, and I won't be able to swap it here when I'm done.  Perhaps I should see if I can borrow it on iCloud or something.  Hmmmmm. Anyway, I'm digressing.

It sounds like this book would make for some good discussion.  Will it fit any categories of the Classic Challenge?  I KNOW it'll fit in the Un-Challenge somewhere, but it would be nice if we could make it fit into the Classic.  Christa, what say you?  It would definitely work for the "books from the TBR pile" or one could make it work in the "related books" category.  In fact, an option would be to have the "related" books be RAL books for the year.  If we have RALs in February, April, June, August, October and December, that would be six.  (I can't remember if we need 5 related books or 6).  Anywho . . .

Will go start a thread so people can prep.  Okay, Kelly (and Linda too!), Deb, REK, and yes, you too, Christa, get your butts over to the RAL thread and help me solicit joiners!

You only need 5 related books, and we don't do a RAL in December, so counting Feb, April, June, August and October as your related books would work perfect! Brilliant idea, Shelley!
