Not really, however, it may help to start off w/ one just to get to know who Jim is and what is going on...

It is a chronological series, but you won't get too far off if you don't read them in order...of course i'm way behind on this series...lol

I know I didn't read them in order when I first found the series.  I did finally have to go find #1 so that I would have an idea about Jim's background and then how he happened to find KoKo & YumYum and get to Moose County. (400 miles north of everywhere).  :)

I'd at least read the first 2 or 3 in order since it sets the stage for much of what happens later in the series.

As for any recent publications - I swear that the original author is dead (if that's her photo on the dust jacket).  That's the same picture that's been on there since the 80s.  No way she's still alive and writing. lol

I'd go with Melani's suggestion read the first three in order then you know who everyone is.  After that you'd have a good idea of what's happening.

Yes read the 1st 3 in order.  She wrote those in 1966..1967 & 1968  then took a 18 yr break before she added to it!

The Cat Who Could Read Backward [1966]

The Cat Who Ate Danish Modern [1967]

The Cat Who Turned On and Off [1968]

I read those as a kid & when I went looking to reread them I was shocked to find she wrote 15 more LOL

I now have them ALL in PB!!!!    Hope you enjoy them as much as I have!   [BTW there are about  30-35 now]

I'd completely forgotten about that - that there was a 12 year game between the first 3 and the rest.  This just leads me more to believe that the woman who appears on the dust jacket is NOT the one writing the books.  Am I the only one that thinks this?
