Is anyone interested in reading a book together? Maybe one for the challenge; like Aztec? Or, one of the "Golden Oldies" lots of us haven't read; like Shogun?

Or, some other book? Suggestions are welcomed!

I just got Shogun in a box of box from me Mam.  That might be fun.  I read it in the distant past but with the talk on here I thought I should really reread it.

What a great read, Shogun...good miniseries too. Richard Chamberlain was hot in his day-------

I remember that my Mother had a thing for him in the Thorn Birds.  Didn't he also play Edmund Dantes in the Count of Monte Cristo?  Hummm I must now go investigate.

Heck, I had a thing for him in the Thorn Birds..that's why I'm reading Thorn Birds for one of my challenges.

He WAS in Count of MC...and I had a thing for him when he did "Hamlet"...hoo boy...I want to say it was a Hallmark special, or PBS or something, back in the early 70's?  I'm not sure.  All I know is that he was...sigh....

I'd be up for an Aztec read along.  I've got that one, and I could use it for the Habla Espanol challenge.

I'd also join in if you select Aztec.  Like Shelley, it's my choice for the Habla Espanol category in the challenge.

The first thing I ever noticed Chamberlain in was Thornbirds.  Yeah, I liked him.  And don't forget the Borne Identity and Centennial miniseries.

So, we have two wanting to read Aztec and one wanting to read Shoguns. Is that right?

If so, we'll do Aztec first and then Letty and I can read Shogun together next. (Or whenever Letty is ready!) I definitely want to read both books!

Do you have your copies of Aztec already?

BTW: Just saw that there is ONE hardcover copy of Aztec available if anyone wants it. -  (Not on my shelf)

I've got an Aztec that I've yet to post, I can lend it out to anyone who needs it for the challenge---I'm slogging thru the entire Aztec series and was hoping to place them for adoption together, so to speak....

I have a copy of Aztec and can start it after I finish the awesome book I'm currently reading, which is The Winter King by Cornwell.  I started it last night, and it sucked me right in. I think I'm going to love this series!

I've also got Aztec and would be ready to start it in about a week or so after I read the book for my March 4 book club.

I may be up for Shogun later in the year. I have always wanted to see that.  20 something years ago I went to see the Tonight Show live and Richard Chamberlain was the guest. Looked good in person too.

I might do the Shogun read along.  Depends on when it is and how far behind I am on my reading list :)

Would everyone who wants to read "Aztec" be ready to start on February 15th? That's a Monday and is over a week away.

Yes'm.  I would love to read Aztec, and I should be done with The Winter King by then.

Count me in as well....Shanghai Girls is going to go quickly, so I'll definitely be able to start by then if not sooner.

I'd be willing to bust into Aztec (have it for my Z challenge thanks to the other-way-looking of the benevolent challenge cop) but I'm pretty slow, mainly since I have precious little time to read.  So I may be a little late to the party when you all finish. ;)

Fahbulous, dahlings. We'll start then. Whoever remembers first that morning can make a thread. ;-)

I started Aztec this morning.  Only got about 10 pages into it, but I'm hoping to have plenty of reading time over the weekend!  The first 10 pages sucked me right in! I think I'm going to enjoy this one.  How do we want to work the thread?  Do we want to have separate threads grouped by sections or just one thread where we would definitely have to post spoiler alerts.  I prefer having different threads as then you can read the posts as you go without fear of a spoiler, but I'll go with whatever everyone else thinks.

BTW, who's all in?

Shelley - I hope to get it started this weekend as well.  Glad to hear it's good so far!  I'd also prefer to have different threads breaking it up into sections, so I won't look at them until I've read that section!

Michelle - Well, it should be noted that what I've read so far in the first 10 pages is basically just a prologue to the story.  It sets up who is telling the story and why.  I like, who I am assuming is going to be, the narrator's "voice."  I can tell already he is smart, wily, wity, irreverant and sarcastic.  I grinned several times while reading those 10 pages.  LOL!  Perhaps that's just his "old man" "voice," and the meat of the book will be much different, but I'm liking him so far!

I am soooo envious. I have Aztec sitting on my book shelf (ok, truth be told, I have both hard cover and paperback versions -- don't ask) and I really, really want to read it -- but with two different book club books to read every month, it's hard for me to squeeze in a doorstopper -- so I'll have to wait a bit. But I hope you all enjoy it!
