Reading Activities for Today's Elementary Schools
Reading Activities for Today's Elementary Schools Author:Paul C. Burns and Betty D. Roe Preface: — This book of reading activities is designed for use in classrooms where stimulating programs require that a variety of materials be used within the learning environment. It will be helpful as a resource text in undergraduate and graduate reading classes and also as reference book for in-service teachers. — The activities have been deve... more »loped to correspond with the major reading concepts and tasks. They can be helpful in providing interesting and purposeful reinforcement to a wide variety of basic reading skills. They can serve as resources for ideas and as models for varying extensions of the ideas. Many of the activities promote independent work and divergent thinking, while others can be used with the entire class or small groups. They develop and strengthen a linguistic base for reading. The activities take into account a wide range of achievement levels. They are a collection of practical things to do in the classroom, each of which should be selected by the teacher based on the pupils' needs and then strengthened and illumined by the teacher's imagination in using it with children.
The authors hope you will find the activities useful, logically organized, and presented in a clear format.
The appendices should serve as ready references, as can the other lists of resources provided throughout the text.« less
