What a great book, so far. The story gets you right from page one. Lots of rich, vivid characters. The story starts off with the invasion of the Spanish/Germans into Rome Italy. The Courtesan and her servant have escaped to Venice and the story just keeps getting better and better!

I've read this book also and enjoyed it very much.  I thought Bucino was a wonderful character!!  There are also some interesting twists.

I read it for Book Club, and enjoyed it (I didn't LOVE it, but it was good)

Found The Birth of venus much more enjoyable...  I don't know why, but dwarves in literature bug the heck out of me.  Sillly, Iknow.

I agree, Marci, "Venus" was better.
