I've heard of places that makes teddy bears from real fur coats. I have not been able to find such place in Massachusetts or Georgia.   My sister and I each inherited a fur coat.    We thought this would be a wonderful gift for our grown children.  A teddy bear made out of their late Grandmother's fur coats.  Does anyone know of a place?

I have never heard of this but sounds like a neat idea. If you ever get it done I would love to see pics of them.

I say so it yourself.  I have seen these bears and think it is a wonderful thing.  If your fur has a monogram of the original owner use it as the bottom of one of the paws.  I have two furs handed down from my husbands grandmother.  I'm just trying to get up the nerve to cut it into the patterns.

I've made teddy bears for people - as rememberance bears.  I use the deceased's clothing and turn it into teddy bears. I prefer the jointed arms and legs than the kind sewn in place.

It wouldn't be any different using real fur.  If you can sew, you can do it with fur - you just have to be careful to only cut the fabric portion and not the fur. Seperate the hairs down to the skin and only cut the skin.

I have a few of these bears.  An elderly lady at my church made them for me.   She used old fur coats for the bears and the bottoms of the paws are from an old leather jacket.  The arms and legs are jointed.   They're adorable.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I guess I will have to try sewing my own teddy bears.

Thanks
