Dulcie is a woman of passion who is ashamed of her needs and desires. A widow and young mother who has had very bad experiences with men and is afraid they only want one thing from a woman. Rye, a man full of guilt who has lost two families and who feels that he does not deserve another. He has come to pay a debt that he feels he owes to Dulcie but is to ashamed to tell her why he feels that guilt. Two wounded souls must learn to trust and love again. Ms McKade makes you feel each and every emotion that these two experience and you find yourself cheering for each of them to find the love in life that they deserve.

Rye Forrester is on a mission. His drinking led to the death of a friend. Now he is looking for his friend's widow, to try to make up for his tragic mistake. Dulcie McDaniel is in a bind. Her drunken father was accused of a murder he didn't commit, taken from the jail and hanged. Now all she has left is her daughter and a broken down farm with no way of harvesting the crops. When Rye approaches her and offers to help her bring in her harvest, deciding to delay telling her the real reason he is here. But, secrets have a way of catching up with a person.

This was another wonderful book by this author. Both Rye and Dulcie are wounded souls who believe they don't deserve happiness. Their story has you rooting for the underdogs. Stories like this are why Maureen McKade is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
