It automatically gives you a credit when they mark a book received. Even if they mark a book received with a problem it gives you the credit.

Go into My Account and Transaction Archive. There should be a Credit Registry link.  That'll show you the credits you've spend and earned.  If you used PBS printed postage then you got the credit when you mark the book mailed and may have already spent it.

Did you have any WL books on autorequest?  If so you may have a book enroute to you that you didn't notice.

It sounds like you went to your transaction archive and not the credit registry.  From the TA you should see a link that says Credit Registry.  That will take you to a screen that shows every book credit you've used, earned or purchased.

By any chance did you send the book using PBS postage?  If so, you received your credit when you marked the book mailed.

Barbie, buddied you a credit so you can get your book, but do check the items others here have mentioned.  The most likely explanations are all covered.  Don't worry about returning the credit, btw - just pay it forward to someone else who's in a pinch whenever you're able.

red means a credit was used in some way (ordered a book, gave to someone else, etc), green means the credit was received in some way (earned b/c book received, bought, gifted to you)

Also, if you had a negative balance in your credit bank, and then someone marks your book received, the balance will be zero.

Um, you can have a negative credit balance? How?

If you go to your transaction archive to mark a book received, you can go negative. So for example, you order book A with your last credit but it goes lost. You get your credit back and decide to order book B instead with that same credit. But then book A arrives and you mark it received from your transaction archive. Then you have a negative balance, because a credit is taken from your account to "pay" for the book that had your credit refunded to you.
