I recived a book today that I request almost 2 weeks ago and the sender didn't mark it as "Mailed". The sender didn't send it by media mail either because he used a black marker to cover it up and there are 3 stamps (2 $1 stamp and a 5c) on it with postmarks (sent yesterday the 16th and recived today the 17th).

Should I just wait until "this sender has such and such time to mark this book mailed to you",  expires?. I'm not really sure what to do.

thanks to all those who reply.

I would send a polite PM to them & just kindly ask them to mark it mailed so that you can mark it received.  He/she probably just forgot to mark it mailed. It can happen to the best of us.

If you requested the book that long ago, it is possible that the person who sent the book is not the same as the one who is on your request tab, have you checked the state and member's name to see if it is from that member? If it is not, you can look in your Transaction Archive to see if there is a cancelled transaction there with the person who sent it and they missed marking it as mailed before the deadline.

If the book is from the person with the active transaction, PM them and let them know that you cannot mark it received until they mark it mailed. If they do not mark it mailed and the transaction gets cancelled you should cancel any newly generated requests and mark this one received from your Transaction Archive.

If the book is from a cancelled transaction, see if you can cancel the current transaction. If you can, then you need to mark the cancelled one received from your Transaction Archive. If you cannot cancel the current transaction anymore, then you will not be required to mark the first book from the cancelled transaction received.

You can find more information in the Help Center: http://www.paperbackswap.com/help/search.php?terms=I+got+a+book+I+requested%2C+but+cant+mark+it+received

Richard, if it's been two weeks without being marked mailed, then the request canceled from this sender and it will be in your Transaction Archive. Go to the top of this page, find "My Account"and use the drop down menu to get to "Transaction Archive".  Once there, find the book in question and double check to make sure it's from the same sender.  You can mark it received from there.

Also, check your Main Acccount page where all active transactions are listed, as when this request canceled, it would have been sent to the next member if the book was in the system.  If you do have another request for the same book, you will need to cancel it, since you received the book from another member who didn't mark it mailed.

ETA:  Melanie and I were typing at the same time.

I checked my Transaction Archive and the book I received was NOT from the original request. The original request book was in the state of MN while I received another copy from the state of TX (which is why it only took a day to get here cause the sender lives in the capital).

In my Transaction Archive it is asking if this book was received (from the original request) even though it say's "No answer from sender after alloted time".

Richard, did you check your Main Account page to see if you have a request for this same book, being sent from Texas?

No I don't see anywhere that say's Texas.

Here are two images of the book request.

This is where it say's the sender has not marked it mailed yet. Sender is from TX

Here is my orginal request in which the sender is from MN

Okay, then send a PM to the member from Texas and ask them to mark the book mailed.  If you don't hear back from them before the request cancels, then the request will move to your Transaction Archive and you'll be able to mark the book received from there.  Since you have the book, keep a watch on your Main Account page because if the 2nd request cancels due to lack of being marked mailed,  you will probably receive a 3rd request and you'll want to cancel that request.

Here's what happens.  You request a book and a member accepts that request, but forgets to mark it mailed.  The only way the system knows a member has followed through is when the book is marked mailed.  Since the system did not hear from the sending member by the date the member said they would mail it, the request canceled and automatically moved to the next member who had the book. It appears this 2nd member also did not mark it mailed and if the request cancels, a 3rd request will automatically be sent.

This is the chaos that occurs when members don't mark their books mailed and requesters aren't fully aware of the procedures.

Great and thanks. Clears up allot of things.

I will send the sender a PM to remind them to mark it sent so I can make it as received.
