I received a completely different book from what I requested. I have PMed the sender to see what she says.

What does one usually do in this situation? I don't want this book and I don't want to have to mail it back unless I get a credit for it.

So....what would you do?

Didja mark it "received with a problem"?

I'm not certain of the protocols, because this has never personally happened to me.

No, I decided to PM her first and see what she wants to do to avoid the "received with a problem". This has never happened to me before either.

You might want to await further advice from the folks here who've had more experience with it than I have before doing anything, because again, I've had no experience in this kinda thing.  How long ago didja PM the sender?

ETA: I know that first sentence reads odd, but it's only because I haven't had my full dose of caffeine this morning, and I'm still working with the Dept of Redundancy Dept.  :D

The sender probably mixed up the addresses on two packages. What should happen now is the sender should give you a credit (to mail it to the person it was meant to go to) and give the person who got your book a credit (to mail to you). They will also need to provie you both with the other person's address. If everyone agreees to this, that would be the best solution. If one of the parties does not, you can mark it RWAP and the site will put you in line for another copy. The original sender loses postage books and credits, but they made the mistake.

Thank you. That is what I had hoped would happen. So now I just wait for the sender to reply.

Since you didn't receive your book, don't mark anything on your end.

Sarah is correct, the sender most likely mixed up the addresses.  The two solutions are either send each person a credit to cover postage to mail the books to each other, or let them go lost and then you can post the wrong book and re-order the correct one.

Yup. Exactly this. I've been on both ends of this situation and both times this is what happened. Mistakes happen!

I think now there is an option to mark it RWP-with an option to mark the completely wrong book received so that it doesn't give the credit to the sender but makes the complaint official.  There should also be a wrong edition button too for when someone sends you the wrong ISNB which will give the sender a credit.  But it's been ages since I marked a book RWP.

Seems like this is happening more and more lately......are members getting senile or just inattentive?

THANK YOU Mary L.

Been waiting about 3 years for a particular edition, finally get to the front of the queue, and I'm sent a different, very commonly available edition.  Then the person gets my credit anyway?  I fail to see how a situation like this is different from sending a different title.  RWP from now on!

Yes, the sender gets the credit if you choose the problem "Wrong Book-Wrong Binding or Version". Here's the text that comes up when you select this option. As you can see, you have the option of asking for your credit to be returned. You will be put back on the wish list at the front of the line (or in your previous position if you weren't first in line) when you mark the wrong book received.

We are very sorry to hear that you received the wrong binding or version of "The Body in the Piazza: A Faith Fairchild Mystery". This "wrong book" option means the title and author are generally correct, but that either one or more of the following does not match the listing EXACTLY: ISBN, Title, Author or Booktype (binding) -or - the book is an ARC - or the book is not Large Print (if the listing says Large Print). Cover image, publisher, publication date, etc. DO NOT have to match.

This problem transaction will be recorded on the sender's account. Too many problem transactions will jeopardize PBS membership. We will email the sender about this request. The email will include your description of the problem (enter this below) and your request for a credit refund from the sender (if you choose this below).

Would you like to request that the sender return your credit?
 Yes   No

Please use the box below to initiate a dialogue with the sender about this wrong book. Your description will be included in an email to the sender about this swap. Please be polite - no one means to send a problem book! (Your description is required.)
