I mailed a book a few weeks ago....and the receiver pm'd me to say it was the wrong book (title..isbn..everything)......while I did find that hard to believe as it was the only book of that series in my house as I don't even read that type of book but picked it up at a beach book swap one day....I told her I would check around and make sure my girls had brought home a similar book and I mailed the wrong one. Nope...no such simple solution. Not sure what happens now.....does the book just go marked lost as it is still on my books I have sent list (though she says she marked it received but wrong copy).......and if it does go lost she will get her credit back correct??? I already told to repost or give away the other book, whatever she wished.

Did you send out more than 1 book at the same time? Is it possible you got your labels mixed up?

If she marked it received, then she can't get her credit back unless you give it to her. If it's marked received, then it can't go lost. It is possible that she has 2 books mixed up and sent the PM to the wrong person. It's also possible you mixed up labels if sending out more than 1 book.

You should ask her to make sure the book came from you.  The request could have been  accepted and then not marked mailed by someoen before you, who did mail but the wrong book.  Your book could still be on its way.

I did ask her if she was sure it was from me and she said yes......and that was the only book I mailed for a few days so I know I didn't mix up the labels.

The two most likely scenario's have already been posted Tammi.  The shipping label mix up, or the timed-out/mailed anyway confusion.    If you're sure you mailed the correct book with the correct label, the problem could be on the receivers end (and your book is still in the mail).

She also told me that she marked the book received but it won't be noted as such until she receives the correct book????? That just doest sound right....especially being I don't have "the correct book" to send her. Also, like I mention book is still on my "books I have mailed "list ....and when I click on details this is the info I get...Request Dates Request Date: 9/9/2011 10:34 PM ET Will Mail By: 9/15/2011 11:00 PM ET  Label Print Date(s): 9/11/2011 9:04 AM ET Date Mailed: 9/11/2011 9:06 AM ET  Estimated Arrival: 10/8/2011 ET  She contacted me about this on September 20,th for the first time.

Tammie - when you mailed the book there was a Request ID on the label.  You can ask her what that ID # was.  Then you can go to your 'BOOKS I'VE MAILED" tab and you'll have to go to reprint the label (and you might want to actually reprint the label), and compair the ID # on the label that you printed to the label she received.  If they are the same ID # I'd say she got the book from you.  If not, she received it from someone else and has labels mixed up.

I'm presuming she gave you the name of the book, ISBN, etc., of the book she received, and that you've never had that book either in your house or on your bookshelf.

Good luck.  Pat

This happened to me once. It turned out the book came out of the package in transit so the USPS just shoved any old book back in and taped it back up. There was a stamp basically explaining that on the package, but I didn't notice at first because it was a red stamp on dark brown packaging.

If you sent the wrong book then you wouldn't normally receive a credit for it or be reimbursed for your postage. In the same way, if you received a book you didn't order, you wouldn't be expected to pay a credit for it or mail the book back at your own expense. If you would like the book back, you can offer her a self-addressed stamped envelope to mail it back.

The only ones who could have canceled the transaction after it was marked mailed would be the PBS Team.  You might check your Club Communications folder* to see if any e-mails or PMs were sent to you about this transaction.  Maybe you aren't receiving all your PBS e-mails.  If she contacted you earlier and you didn't receive her message or respond, the PBS Team might have stepped in.  They are really the only ones who can tell you why it was canceled.  To talk to them, go down to the bottom right corner of any page, and under Company click on Contact Us.  Use the Feedback option.

Hope that helps!  It's a puzzle!

*The club communications folder is on the yellow bar at the top of your My Account page.

I just wanted to point out that this is part of the new receiving system. A member can nw mark that a wrong book has been received  as Received with a problem - completely wrong book and it does not log the book as received, it leaves it out there as unreceived so that the member can mark the transaction received when they get the correct book. I can't answer how or why it was marked as cancelled by the sender later, you'd have to ask the Team via the Contact Us about that.

As Patty pointed out, you wouldn't get a credit if a completely wrong book is received. In that situation the book would go lost in the system because the receiver doesn't ever have to log the correct book as received when a completely wrong book is received, it would eventually go lost and you would lose the credit. I don't know if the new system causes a system activity to happen earlier now so that the receiver doesn't have to wait as long to get their credit back to obtain the book from someone else or what.

What do you mail your books in? One possible answer I could see if you mailed the correct book is that if you mail in envelopes, the book came out enroute and the post office just stuck stuff back into envelopes and the wrong book was stuck back into your envelope. I have heard of people getting Tshirts, DVDs, magazines, all kinds of weirds things besides incorrect books.
