I requested a book that had been on my wish list "The Darkest Night".  When I received by package today,  I see I was sent a book titled "Darker Than Night".  I have PM'd the sender about the wrong title;  however, I don't see the transaction in my Transaction Archive.  Does anyone know why?

Yes. Because you didn't receive the book you ordered. The book will stay on your "Books En Route" tab until it goes lost in the mail, at which point your credit will be automatically returned to you.

The sender of the book can contact PBS and ask that the transaction be cancelled earlier, thus returning your credit to you earlier as well.

The sender should not refund you a credit themselves, as then you would have 2 credits.

It may be possible that the sender mixed up two packages with similar title books, in which case, she may choose to fix it by giving you and the other receiver each another credit to send the books to each other, and you would mark them received normally when you each actually receive the book you ordered.

You can RWAP the book and the sender can fix the mistake or refund your credit for wrong book sent.

Actually, the new system is set up that you can RWAP as wrong title.  The order stays open and in your My Account window until it is declared "lost" or the sender asks PBS to cancel it.  This way all those switched books get covered with a PM sent to the sender AND the order staying open.

  • Wrong Book - Different Title
    • this means that the book is totally wrong (wrong title/author) - usually caused by the sender putting the wrong book into the wrapper, or mixing up two book shipments.  See I received a book I didn't request! for more information about this problem.

Then:

  • Wrong Book - Different Title
    • Again, this means that the book is totally wrong (wrong title/author) - usually caused by the sender putting the wrong book into the wrapper, or mixing up two book shipments
    • You will have a text box - the text you type in will be included in an email, and sent as a Personal Message, to the sender.
    • Choosing this problem type option will NOT mark the book received - you will see the instruction "Note: This book will NOT be marked as received. Please wait until you receive the book that you ordered, then mark it received."
      • The book IS NOT marked received for this problem type because if a sender mixes up two requests or puts the wrong book into a wrapper, usually the sender had the book in question and it can be retrieved and sent to you.
    • If you don't get this book by the system action date, the book will be declared "lost in the mail" - if you get it after that, you need to mark it received from your Transaction Archive, as described in I received a book that was 'lost in the mail'.
    • If the sender cannot send you the correct book, he or she can contact us to cancel this transaction, so that you can try to get the book from another member without having to wait for the system to declare it "Lost in the mail."
    • See I received a book I didn't request! for more information about the resolution of this problem.

You can RWAP the book and the sender can fix the mistake or refund your credit for wrong book sent.

In the past, you were never supposed to RWAP'd the completely wrong book. You let it go lost in the mail.

In the current system, you DO mark it RWAP, however, what really happens is ... it stays on your "Books En Route" tab, and it eventually gets marked Lost in the Mail, at which point you get your credit back. (So, essentially the exact same thing happens).

The sender should NOT refund the credit because you get the credit back when the book goes lost in the mail.

If you want to work out something with the sender, like marking the book received in some other way and then they immediately give you back a credit, you coudl do it that way, however, you shouldn't  start out trying that without contacting the other member, as that's not the proper procedure recommended by PBS, and there are no guarantees of getting your credit back that way at all.

did everything else match?  Could it be that the similar title is because it is a British version of the same book?  I lived in Europe when I joined PBS so many of my new paperbacks were British versions-- I didn't learn til much later that they gave many of them different titles.
