One of my WL books came up and the person accepted it.  Then it sat there a good while and was cancelled by PBS because the person never marked it mailed.  Another person posted the WL book and it was accepted and is now on its way to me.  Yesterday I received the 1st one that the person never marked mailed and I'm not even sure it was postable.  It has excessive creases on the spine and two I guess you would call them "puncture marks" on the front cover.  I know by PBS rules if this happens I am not obligated to give the 1st sender a credit and am only obligated on the 2nd transaction which is still active.

So should I do anything at all about the first book?  I don't know whether I should PM the 1st sender to let them know I got it or wait until they PM me asking about it and explain to them that I'm not obligated to give them a credit for it.  Normally if the book wasn't questionable I would just give them both a credit and repost the 2nd one when I got it since this book is WLed by 23 other people.    Unfortunately, this book is borderline and I'm not comfortable passing it on to someone else as anything other than a freebie.  Thoughts?

I wouldn't PM the sender at all.  You're not obligated to give them a credit.  I agree, I would give them one and repost the book if it was in postable condition.  Since it's not, I wouldn't contact them and I'd give the book away to someone as a freebie.

After looking at your wish list, I am curious to know what book you speak of.

I'm not sure how several creases on the spine make a book unpostable or the couple of puncture marks...

I'd be polite and PM that sender and let them know that you received it and why they won't get a credit...not letting them know seems kind of impolite.

The book is Voyager by Diana Gabaldon ISBN 9780385335997

I think this one definitely does fall in the grey area of whether or not its postable.  It is not something I myself would have posted.  I think I might PM the person and let them know because if they're new I don't want them to lose out on several credits because they're not marking their books mailed.  I just wanted to avoid a back and forth exchange about it with the person who sent it.

I've been fortunate with the quality of the books I've received from this site so far.  I've received over 80 books (probably closer to 100 if you count deals I've received here) and this is the first one that has been questionable.

When I receive a borderline book like that, I usually mark it received w/o a problem and let the person know, that the next person might not be so lucky.  Eventually every book gets to it's last person as a postable book and sometimes that might be you.  I'd repost the 2nd, good version right away as a WL book. Then I'd keep the borderline one, read it and offer it as a freebie with an order from my shelf.  (actually I'd post the borderline one on another book trading site and the good one here).  If it's a WL book with a long line, you might even be able to offer it as a freebie with a 2 book order.
