I'm looking for recommendations to an introduction to mysery/detective novels. I'm not familiar with this genre. I have recently fallen in love with the late Dashiell Hammet. There are only two books of his that I have read and I'm already nervous for when the time comes that I've read all of his books!
I've tried looking through the thriller section at B&N but didn't know where to begin until I saw The Maltese Falcon (which I consider cheating as a starting point because I saw the movie frist) I've also tried reading Sherlock Holmes books but couldn't get past all the opium consumption; though I do enjoy the point and click mystery games! The same goes for Agatha Christie, but replace "a little less conversation and a little more action" with opium.
Any recommdations for mystery books similiar to the fast paced, gritty, wry humored Mr. Hammett would be greatly appreciated!
I have recently started reading "Cozy" mysteries~
Im not sure if this would be the kind of book that you are looking for...
but the author of several books that I have read is: Monica Ferris
( Cozy mysteries are types of mysteries where there is not a lot of bloodshed or graphic details..)
usually set in stores, restaurants, etc..
I enjoyed reading mystery series by these authors:
Susan Wittig Albert
Diane Mott Davidson
Katherine Hall Page
There are many, many others I haven't got around to reading yet --
