LOL I just made a dollar store craft because the site inspired me.  I got some fuzzy wash cloth thingies (I think they are made for washing  windows) they look like fur for a stuffed animal. Then I got a set of leis (flower necklace thingies) and pom poms. I sewed the cloths into a pillow (or rather my SIL did she doesnt trust me with her sewing machine after I broke four in one year) I took the leis apart then hand stitched the pom poms into the middle of the flowers and sewed them onto the pillow. Then I recycled some old pillows that were flat as pancakes to stuff it with (along with a magic towel pillow) then sewed up the opening to close it. The whole thing costed me 4$ I intended to send it in but the camera is missing its usb cable so I cant get the pics onto the computer :(

I also got some flip flops and socks at the $ store and some t shirts at wally world. Im gonna sew the flowers onto them too and give them to my nieces for their b-days. (both are in this month) I vowed earlier this year that all gifts this year were going to be hand made. So far so good. The leis are enough to make a gazillion things too. Even afer putting 15 flowers (which is two stacked on top of each other) onto the pillow I still have a whole gallon sized ziploc bag full of them. Im sure I'll be doing stuff with these flowers and pom poms for a while.

Oh I just remembered a $ store craft I did a couple years ago. It was for a handmade christmas ornemant swap here. I got a bunch of feather boa play sets that had a boa and two plastic bracelets in them. I wrapped the boa around the braclets and glued them down as I went. Then I found some glittered star thingies and glued them on. Then I finished it up with wrapping ribbon around them and tieing it off at the top making the hanger with it. Each one costed a total of probably $1.75 each.

ETA Im also trying a few of the crafts on the site. Like the waste basket with the army men on it. Im gonna try to get a rooster on it somewhere and give it to my SIL (of the stingy sewing machine) cause she decorated her kitchen with roosters. If I was a better sewer Id try the corset to make for my oldest niece) Its stunning but Im no where good enough to attempt that. Remember I broke 4 sewing machines. Im cursed :(

Also Im way into recycled crafts. I make all sorts of stuff from things people throw away. Like the tabs for pop cans become belts, bracelets, earings and Im gonna try to do a purse too. I recycle all my scrap paper in the summer (too cold to be elbow deep in water in the winter.) I make envelopes out of magazine pages and calenders. I havent figured out what to do with bath poofs yet. The dress was cute but again Im not that good with sewing. I can do straight lines and thats about it and the machines break on me.

Wow, ChrisB! Those are some great ideas! I saw the leis last time I went to the DS... Sounds like you came up with some great ideas for them!

If you find your USB cable, def. submit pictures!!

Thanks!  There is a link for a coke bottle vase, that comes out really cute.  We are celebrating Earth Day at work tomorrow and I make three of them as votive holders to go around our breakfast buffet.  Everyone just loved them.

Thanks, Rose! I might want to post about your votive holders on Dollar Store Crafts (with your permission, of course). My readers have really responded to the recycled soda bottle coin purse project, so I bet they would like to see more recycled bottle projects!
